The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1 (January session) on February 16, 2026, with 12 candidates securing a perfect 100 NTA percentile in Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech). A total of 13.05 lakh candidates appeared for the computer-based test across multiple shifts, which serves as the eligibility gateway for JEE Advanced 2026 and admissions to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions.

According to the official NTA announcement, all 12 candidates who achieved the top score of 100 percentile are male. Rajasthan led with three toppers, followed by Andhra Pradesh with two, and one each from Delhi (NCT), Bihar, Odisha, Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana. This marks a slight decrease from the previous year’s Session 1, where 14 candidates had scored 100 percentile.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Participation and Key Statistics

Out of approximately 13.55 lakh registered candidates, 13.05 lakh appeared for session 1 of JEE Main 2026 exam conducted from January 21 to 29, 2026. Male candidates constituted about 66% of those who appeared. The participation reflects a rise compared to the previous year’s Session 1 figure of 12.58 lakh appeared candidates.

The NTA score is calculated based on the normalization process across shifts, and the final ranks consider the best score from the two sessions for candidates appearing in both. The second session is expected in April 2026.

Exam Integrity Measures

This year, the NTA implemented enhanced security protocols, including OTP-based Aadhaar E-KYC for candidate authentication, live CCTV surveillance at centres, and real-time monitoring from a central control room to curb malpractices. The NTA withheld results for 68 candidates due to unfair means or identity issues.

The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 results pave the way for qualified candidates to register for JEE Advanced 2026, conducted by one of the IITs, for admission to undergraduate programmes at the Indian Institutes of Technology.

The authority has not announced further details yet on category-wise cutoffs or the exact qualifying threshold for JEE Advanced eligibility, which will be updated on the official website.
