1. Scientist-B and Scientific Assistant-A (Entry Level)

For these roles, the NIC has shifted to a selection process primarily based on GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores from the years 2024, 2025, or 2026.

• Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a B.E., B.Tech, M.Sc, or MCA in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Electronics & Communication.

• Age Limit: The upper age limit is generally 30 years for Unreserved (UR) candidates, with standard government relaxations for SC/ST (5 years) and OBC (3 years).

2. Scientist-C and Scientist-D (Lateral Entry)

These are direct recruitment posts for professionals with a proven track record.

• Experience: Scientist-C requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, while Scientist-D requires 8 years.

• Application Dates: The window for these posts opened on April 8, 2026, and will close on April 30, 2026 (5:30 PM).

NIC Recruitment 2026: Selection Process: How to Get Hired

The selection methodology varies depending on the level of the post:

• For GATE-based posts (Scientist-B/STA-A): Candidates are shortlisted based on their GATE scores. This is followed by a Document Verification (DV) process and, in the case of Scientist-B, a Personal Interview.
