Today’s Update: Question Papers Release

Starting today, April 9, NTA is making the shift-wise question papers available on the official website. Unlike the answer key or response sheet, the question papers are generally available as public documents and do not require a private login for access. This allows students to review the questions asked across different shifts and compare difficulty levels, which is a common practice for those looking to understand the normalization process.

How to Download JEE Main 2026 Question Papers?

  1. Visit the official website: jeemain.nta.nic.in.

  2. Look for the link “JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Question Papers” on the homepage.

  3. Select your respective shift and date from the list.

  4. Download and save the file for your reference.

When to Expect the JEE Main Answer Key and Response Sheet?

While the question papers are arriving today, the provisional answer key and the candidate response sheets are expected to be released by April 11, 2026.

The response sheet is a digital record of the answers you marked during the computer-based test (CBT). By comparing this with the provisional answer key, students can calculate their raw scores using the official marking scheme. This is often the most stressful yet important moment for aspirants as it provides a clear picture of their standing.

The Marking Scheme Breakdown:

  • +4 Marks for every correct answer.

  • -1 Mark for every incorrect answer (Negative Marking).

  • 0 Marks for questions left unattempted.

For the Numerical Value Questions (NVQs), the same marking scheme applies, emphasizing the need for high accuracy in calculations.

The Challenge Window: Your Right to Object

Once the provisional key is out, NTA provides a brief 48-hour window for students to raise objections if they find any discrepancies in the answers. If a student feels a question was wrong or an answer key is incorrect, they can submit a challenge.

  • Fee: Candidates must pay a non-refundable processing fee of 180 to 200 per question challenged.

  • Process: Challenges must be backed by valid supporting evidence, such as scanned copies of textbook solutions or logical derivations.

  • Final Key: If a challenge is verified as correct by subject matter experts, the NTA will release a Final Answer Key. This final version is used to calculate the percentile and ranks. No further challenges are accepted after this stage.

Session 2 Exam Analysis: A Quick Recap

The April session of JEE Main 2026 saw high participation, with nearly 93% attendance for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech). Early feedback from students suggests a balanced but challenging exam:

  • Mathematics: Consistently rated as the toughest section. It featured lengthy calculations and a heavy focus on Coordinate Geometry, Calculus, and Vector Algebra.

  • Physics: Rated as “Easy to Moderate.” Questions were largely formula-based, though some shifts saw tricky conceptual questions in Electromagnetism and Modern Physics.

  • Chemistry: Considered the most scoring section. Most questions were directly from NCERT textbooks, with Inorganic Chemistry taking a lead in weightage this session.

What Happens Next?

The JEE Main 2026 Session 2 results are expected by April 20, 2026. These results will include the All India Ranks (AIR), calculated by taking the “best of two” scores for those who appeared in both the January and April sessions.

For students aiming for the prestigious IITs, the registration for JEE Advanced 2026 is scheduled to begin shortly after the results, around April 23, 2026. Only the top 2.5 lakh qualifiers from JEE Main will be eligible to move forward.

Pro-tip for Students: Make sure to download and print your response sheet as soon as it becomes available. The NTA typically removes these links once the final results are processed, and having a hard copy is essential for any future score verification.
