Eligibility Criteria for Class 9 and 11

For Class 9 admission, candidates must be studying in Class 8 during the academic year 2027 in a recognised school. This school should be located in the same district as the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya where admission is sought. The date of birth for Class 9 applicants must fall between May 1, 2012, and July 31, 2014, inclusive of both dates. The age limit for Class 9 admission is a minimum of 13 years and a maximum of 15 years.

For Class 11 admission, candidates must be studying in Class 10 during 2026 and their date of birth should be between June 1, 2010, and July 31, 2012, inclusive. The age limit for Class 11 admission is a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 17 years. Qualifying the selection test does not guarantee admission, as it is contingent on the number of vacant seats available in the respective Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Examination Pattern and Structure

The Navodaya Vidyalaya Class 9 admission exam evaluates applicants’ proficiency in English, Hindi, Mathematics, and Science. The examination is conducted in a pen-and-paper (offline, OMR-based) mode, with the test medium available in English or Hindi. The duration of the exam for Class 9 is two and a half hours, though another source indicates a duration of three hours for Class 9.

The Class 9 examination is for a total of 100 marks. English and Hindi sections each carry 15 marks and are allotted 30 minutes. Mathematics and Science sections each carry 35 marks and are allotted 1 hour each. The exam centre details will be specified on the Navodaya admit card. The JNVST Lateral Entry exam is specifically held to fill vacant seats in Classes 9 and 11, as most admissions to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas occur at Class 6.
