Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) today, October 22, 2026, announced a revised exam pattern and syllabus for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE 2027). The institute also updated eligibility criteria, including the age limit, and added new test centres for the examination.

VITEEE 2027 is scheduled to be conducted from April 27 to May 2, 2027, across designated centres in India and overseas locations. The examination is held for admission to BTech programmes at VIT’s Vellore, Chennai, Amravati, and Bhopal campuses.
Changes to VITEEE 2027 Exam Pattern and Structure
Significant changes have been introduced for VITEEE 2027, including a reduction in the total number of questions, the implementation of sectional timers, and a revised exam duration. The examination will now feature exactly 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs), a decrease from the 125 questions in the previous year’s pattern. The total exam duration has been reduced to 2 hours without any breaks, including bio breaks. For VITEEE 2026, the exam duration was 2 hours 30 minutes.
Fixed time limits have been implemented for each section of the computer-based test (CBT). Candidates will be awarded four marks for each correct answer, while one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Unanswered questions or those marked for review will receive zero marks. Last year, VIT introduced negative marking in the VITEEE marking scheme. A mock test will be hosted on the official website tentatively in March 2027 to familiarise candidates with the new format.

Academic Eligibility and Admission Policies
Candidates must pass all required Class 12 subjects from one recognized Board in a single academic year to be eligible for VITEEE 2027. Improvement candidates are also eligible, provided they completed all qualifying subjects from the same board and meet the passing year criteria (2025, 2026, or appearing in 2027). The VITEEE syllabus follows the NCERT curriculum for Class 11 and 12, with Class 12 topics carrying more weight. A detailed syllabus is available on vit.ac.in.
VIT does not accept JEE Main scores or any other entrance exam results for BTech admissions, with selection being purely on merit as there is no reservation quota. The institute operates a category-based fee system, where top scorers pay lower tuition fees. The top 500 rank holders receive a scholarship in the form of a fee waiver. Candidates can choose between MPCEA (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Aptitude) or BPCEA (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Aptitude, English) streams. Counselling will be conducted online in five phases, based on rank, and is common across all campuses. VIT uses an equi-percentile method to normalise scores across different test sessions.
