Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University (BRAU) is a state university located in Etcherla, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh, India. The university was established in 2008 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to augment educational facilities in the Srikakulam District and cater to the educational needs of the people in the region. The university is situated on National Highway 5 (Chennai to Kolkata), approximately 95 km from Visakhapatnam.
The university has its origins as the Andhra University Post Graduation Centre, established in 1977-78 in partnership with UGC. Initially, only two disciplines – Rural Development and Economics – were taught. Over the years, the name was changed to “Andhra University Dr. Ambedkar Post Graduate Center” and later to “A.U. Campus Etcheria, Srikakulam” before finally becoming “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University” in 2008.
