JEE Main Exam Centre Allotment: How It Works?
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has to deal with the exam center allotment procedure in JEE Main in a way that is both equitable and convenient.
Process of Exam Centre Allotment
When registering in JEE Main, candidates will be allowed to choose up to 4 preferred cities in the exam.
The requests are processed by NTA according to availability, exam capacity and reservation.
- During registration, centers are allocated on a first come first served basis.
- The final allotted exam center information is released in JEE Main City Intimation Slip prior to the exam.
- The address and the exact location of the exam appear on the admit card.
- The center can not be changed once allotted other than in the special correction windows.
- Candidates are advised to carefully read the intimation slip and admit card to get exam related details.
- It is obligatory to report to the specified center on the day of the exam according to instructions.
This allotment system simplifies the exercise of the millions of applicants that appear on JEE Main each year and ensures that safety and capacity requirements are met.
Allowed and Prohibited Items at JEE Main Centres
There are things that are strictly permitted or prohibited in JEE Main exam centers. Some of these are:
Allowed Items
- Admit Card and valid photo ID (Aadhaar, Passport, PAN Card, etc.).
- Proprietary (as authorized) water bottle, transparent.
- Small bottle of personal hand sanitizer.
- Mask (when needed due to health requirements)
- The center supplies stationery (pens, rough-work paper, etc.).
Prohibited Items
- Cellular phones, calculators, electronic watches/gadgets.
- Bags, purses, wallets, geometry boxes or textual content.
- Any written or printed document, notes, cheat slips.
- Food, eatables or bottled water (inside the exam hall)
- Any form of communication by cameras, microphones, Bluetooth, etc.
- Metallic objects such as jewelry that can be turned off on alarms.
No storage facilities are normally provided to store the contrabands and this means that candidates should not bring anything other than the necessary items that are allowed. Breaking of the rules may result in disqualification.
The rules and regulations making certain that these rules are followed will guarantee a smooth and uninterrupted examination atmosphere.
New and Removed JEE Main Exam Centres in 2026
Exam centres for the JEE Main are selected each year to better serve students and make the exam centres easier to access.
For 2026, some centres are being removed and new centres are being added, which is based on logistical considerations and demand. These modifications are structured to help students take the exam with ease and to lower the number of students reported at certain centres.
Exam centres for certain states have been removed in order to adjust and manage the number of students reported at exam centres. Centres for other states have been added. Alongside this, a couple of changes have also been made to the international centres.
NTA has still not confirmed a date on when the full list of the newly added and removed JEE Main exam centres for 2026 will be released.
Candidates should keep an eye on the announcements on the official JEE Main website so that they do not miss out on any changes. Knowing the schedule in advance enables the candidates to plan their travel and accommodation.
JEE Main City Intimation Slip: What It Is and How to Check?
Before the issuance of the admit card, in order to inform the candidates about their exam centre city, the JEE Main City Intimation Slip is an official document issued by the NTA.
After the registration process, the details of the allotted exam city are provided. The slip clarifies and confirms which city the candidate would be appearing in for the examination. The slip is issued a few days to weeks before the examination admit card.
How to Check the Intimation Slip?
- Visit the JEE Main portal at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
- Access the slip using the application number, password, and security pin.
- Print the slip after downloading so that you always have a copy.
Its significance?
- Enables proper arrangement of travel and accommodation.
- Check the preferences chosen with the allotment.
- Provides clarity on exam city since detailed admit card with centre address is not yet released.
Candidates must check the official website for updates after registration so that they can download the city intimation slip on time.
