WBJEE 2026 Exam Live Updates: Paper 1 & 2 Analysis, Question Paper with Solutions OUT
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board successfully conducted the WBJEE 2026 examination on May 24, 2026, across multiple centres in West Bengal and nearby states. Thousands of engineering and pharmacy aspirants appeared for the entrance exam, which is one of the most important state-level engineering entrance tests in India. Candidates who appeared for the examination are now eagerly waiting for the official answer key, paper analysis, expected cutoff, and result date.
According to initial reactions from students and coaching experts, WBJEE 2026 Paper 1 Mathematics was difficult and lengthy, while Paper 2 consisting of Physics and Chemistry was moderate in difficulty. Memory-based question papers along with unofficial answer key solutions have also started becoming available online.
The examination was conducted in offline mode using OMR sheets. Paper 1 for Mathematics was held from 11 AM to 1 PM, while Paper 2 for Physics and Chemistry took place from 2 PM to 4 PM.
WBJEE 2026 Exam Overview
WBJEE is conducted every year for admission into undergraduate courses in engineering, technology, pharmacy, and architecture colleges across West Bengal. Candidates securing good ranks in WBJEE get opportunities to study in top institutions such as Jadavpur University and other reputed government and private colleges.
This year, the examination witnessed strict security arrangements. Candidates underwent frisking before entering exam centres. Authorities also used advanced monitoring systems to prevent cheating during the examination process.
WBJEE 2026 Paper 1 Analysis: Mathematics
The Mathematics paper turned out to be the toughest section of the entire examination. Many students reported that the level of questions was even higher than JEE Main in certain topics. Several candidates said that the paper was time-consuming and required strong conceptual clarity.
According to the early analysis shared by coaching institutes, the paper included lengthy calculations and tricky multiple-choice questions. Students found it difficult to complete all questions within the allotted time.
Major topics asked in Mathematics included:
- Application of Derivatives
- Matrices and Determinants
- Progressions and Series
- Relations and Functions
- Vectors
- Quadratic Equations
- Probability
- Coordinate Geometry
Experts stated that students with strong problem-solving speed and accuracy are expected to score well in this section.
Several students also mentioned that the Category II and Category III questions were more challenging compared to previous years. Since WBJEE includes negative marking in many sections, candidates had to answer carefully.
WBJEE 2026 Paper 2 Analysis: Physics and Chemistry
Compared to Mathematics, Paper 2 was considered easier and more balanced. Most students rated Physics and Chemistry as moderate in difficulty.
Physics Analysis
The Physics section focused mainly on conceptual and numerical-based questions. Topics with higher weightage included:
- Current Electricity
- Modern Physics
- Laws of Motion
- Thermodynamics
- Ray Optics
- Magnetism
Students said that while some numerical questions were lengthy, the overall difficulty remained manageable.
Chemistry Analysis
Chemistry was relatively easier for many candidates. Organic Chemistry reportedly had more weightage than Physical and Inorganic Chemistry. Students who revised NCERT concepts thoroughly found the section scoring.
Important Chemistry topics included:
- Organic Reactions
- Chemical Bonding
- Coordination Compounds
- Thermodynamics
- Electrochemistry
Experts believe that students who performed well in Paper 2 may balance weaker performance in Mathematics.
Overall Difficulty Level of WBJEE 2026
Based on the combined feedback from candidates and coaching experts, the overall difficulty level of WBJEE 2026 can be considered moderate to difficult.
| Paper | Difficulty Level |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | Difficult |
| Physics | Moderate |
| Chemistry | Moderate |
| Overall Exam | Moderate to Tough |
Many students felt that the Mathematics paper could impact overall scores and expected cutoffs this year. Some coaching experts are predicting slightly lower cutoff marks for top engineering branches because of the difficult Mathematics section.
WBJEE 2026 Question Paper with Solutions
Several coaching institutes have released memory-based WBJEE 2026 question papers with unofficial solutions. These PDFs are helping students estimate their probable scores before the official answer key is released.
Candidates can use these unofficial solutions to:
- Calculate expected scores
- Analyse mistakes
- Predict rank range
- Estimate admission chances
The unofficial answer keys currently available online are based on student memory and expert reconstruction of the exam questions. Final confirmation will come only after WBJEEB releases the official provisional answer key.
WBJEE 2026 Marking Scheme
The examination followed the official WBJEE marking pattern with three categories of questions.
Category I
- Correct Answer: +1 mark
- Wrong Answer: -0.25 mark
Category II
- Correct Answer: +2 marks
- Wrong Answer: -0.5 mark
Category III
- Correct Answer: +2 marks
- No negative marking
Candidates are advised to use the official marking scheme while calculating estimated scores through unofficial answer keys.
Expected Safe Score for Top Colleges
Although official cutoffs will be released during counselling, experts have already started predicting safe scores for admission into top colleges.
For Computer Science Engineering at Jadavpur University, candidates may require around 160+ marks according to early estimates. However, the final cutoff will depend on factors such as:
- Number of candidates appearing
- Difficulty level of exam
- Seat availability
- Reservation categories
- Overall student performance
Since Mathematics was difficult this year, cutoff trends may slightly decrease for some branches.
WBJEE 2026 Result Date
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board has not officially announced the WBJEE 2026 result date yet. However, based on previous year trends, the result is expected to be declared in June 2026.
Candidates will be able to download their rank cards online using their application number and password. The result will include:
- General Merit Rank (GMR)
- Subject-wise scores
- Total marks obtained
After the result declaration, the counselling process for admissions will begin.
WBJEE 2026 Answer Key Release
The provisional answer key is expected to be released soon on the official WBJEE website. Once released, candidates will get the opportunity to challenge incorrect answers by paying the required objection fee.
The board will also upload OMR response sheets for students to verify their marked answers. After reviewing objections, the final answer key will be published.
What Students Said After the Exam
Student reactions after the examination remained mixed. While many candidates struggled with Mathematics, others found Physics and Chemistry manageable.
Some students said that time management became difficult due to lengthy calculations in Paper 1. Others felt that students who practised previous year papers and mock tests had an advantage in the exam.
Overall, candidates agreed that WBJEE 2026 tested conceptual understanding rather than direct formula-based learning.
Counselling Process After Results
After the declaration of results, WBJEE counselling registration will begin online. Qualified candidates will have to:
- Register for counselling
- Fill college preferences
- Upload documents
- Pay counselling fees
- Participate in seat allotment rounds
Admissions will be offered based on ranks, category, seat availability, and candidate preferences.
Apart from WBJEE candidates, students with valid JEE Main scores will also be eligible for a limited number of seats in self-financed institutes participating in counselling.
