BPT 2026: Apply now for admissions

Admissions for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program for the 2026 academic year are now open, offering a 4.5-year undergraduate course that includes four years of academics and a six-month mandatory clinical internship. This program is offered by institutions affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and other recognized bodies across India.

The BPT course is increasingly sought after by Science (PCB) students interested in healthcare careers without pursuing MBBS, driven by rising demand for physiotherapy services due to sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, lifestyle disorders, and an ageing population.

BPT 2026 Eligibility and Admission Process

For BPT admission in 2026, candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as core subjects. Some institutions require a minimum of 50% marks in Class 12 with PCB. The minimum age for eligibility is 17 years.

Admission to BPT programs can be merit-based, through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG), or via university-specific entrance tests. While a NEET score is not mandatory for BPT admission in 2026, it can provide more options for government and private KEA quota seats in Karnataka. Approximately 40+ physiotherapy colleges offer BPT courses in Bangalore alone, indicating many institutional choices for prospective students.

BPT Program Fees at Key Institutions

The annual fees for BPT programs vary significantly across institutions. For instance, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, offers a BPT program with approximate fees of ₹13,483 per year. In comparison, SRM College of Rehabilitation Sciences (SRMCRI), Chennai, has approximate annual fees of ₹1,25,000.

Higher fees are observed at institutions like KLE University, Belagavi, Karnataka, with approximate annual fees of ₹1,75,000, and Acharya Institute of Health Sciences (AIHS), Bengaluru, Karnataka, where fees are approximately ₹2,10,000 per year. IIMT University, which offers a 4.5-year BPT program approved by relevant allied health councils and is NAAC ‘A’ Grade accredited, also provides scholarships of up to 50% for meritorious students.

Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) Overview and Past Admissions

After completing a BPT, students can pursue a Master of Physiotherapy (MPT), a two-year postgraduate specialization. MPT specializations include Orthopaedics, Neurology, Sports Physiotherapy, Paediatrics, and Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, opening avenues for research, teaching, and senior clinical roles.

The MPT admission process for the 2018-2019 session in Tamil Nadu, governed by G.O. (D) No.810, Health & Family Welfare (PME-1) Department, dated 11 May 2018, required candidates to be Indian citizens and natives of Tamil Nadu. Applicants needed a B.P.T. Degree from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University or an equivalent recognized university, with not less than 50% of the total marks in all semesters of the B.P.T. Degree course. Service candidates were required to be B.P.T. graduates serving in Tamil Nadu Medical Service or local bodies on a regular basis, with two years of service completed as on 30 April 2018.

MPT Merit List Calculation for 2018-2019 in Tamil Nadu

For the 2018-2019 MPT admissions in Tamil Nadu, the merit list was prepared for a total of 100 marks. Academic marks accounted for 90 marks, while experience marks contributed 10 marks. One mark was awarded for each completed year of experience, up to a maximum of 10 marks, calculated from the last date of passing the B.P.T. Degree Examination.

In addition, two marks were awarded for each year of Government service in hilly areas, also up to a maximum of 10 marks. The application process for that session involved online submission followed by sending a printout with enclosures. The cost of the MPT application for 2018-2019 was ₹1,000.
