MGU PG admissions 2026 prospectus released: check eligibility, reservation details

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has released its prospectus for admission to Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B.Li.Sc. Ed in affiliated colleges for the academic year 2026. Admissions will be conducted through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), a system implemented by the university since 2010 to speed up procedures, ensure transparency, and promote social justice in the admission process.

The current prospectus, applicable for 2026 admissions, supersedes previous editions. The university, located at Priyadarsini Hills P.O., Kottayam-686 560, aims to address issues such as unfilled seats and lack of guidance for applicants, which were prevalent before the introduction of CAP.

Eligibility Criteria for Ma English Programmes

Eligibility requirements for MA programmes in English vary depending on the specific model of the programme. Candidates applying for MA English must hold a graduation degree in English (Model I/II/III) or from other faculties such as language and literature, social science, science, or oriental studies.

For English Language & Literature Model I, candidates require a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.80 out of 4.00 in the Core Group, or a Cumulative Credit Point Average (CCPA) of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group. Alternatively, 45% marks in main and subsidiary subjects under Part III are accepted. For Model II, similar CGPA and CCPA requirements apply, or 45% marks in Part III subjects.

English Literature & Communication Studies Model III (Double Main) requires a CGPA of 1.80 out of 4.00 or a CCPA of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group, along with a minimum of 50% marks in Part I English and 45% in Part III subjects. For English Literature, Communication Studies & Journalism Model III (Triple Main), graduates need a CGPA of 1.80 out of 4.00 or a CCPA of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group, or 45% in Part III subjects.

Graduates from other faculties (Language & Literature, Social Science, Science & Oriental Studies) must have a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 in six common papers for Part I and a CGPA of 1.80 in the Core Group. Alternatively, a CCPA of 5.00 out of 10.00 in six common papers for Part I and a CCPA of 1.80 in the Core Group is accepted. These candidates also need 50% marks in Part I English (3 papers) and 45% marks in Part III subjects.

MBA Admission and Seat Allocation

Admission to the MBA programme at MG School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS) is determined by a combination of entrance exam scores, group discussion, and personal interview. The weightage for these components is 80:10:10, respectively, based on CMAT/CAT/KMAT scores.

Eligibility for the MBA programme requires a Bachelor’s Degree from Mahatma Gandhi University or an equivalent qualification with at least 50% marks in aggregate, or a Master’s Degree in any subject. Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates are only required to pass the qualifying examination.

The total number of seats available for the All India Open/Merit Quota for MBA is 60. An additional International Quota of 12 seats is also available for the MBA programme.

Special Reservations and Additional Seats

Mahatma Gandhi University has provisions for various categories of students, ensuring broader access to its programmes. An additional 10% of seats are earmarked for foreign students for each undergraduate programme, over and above the sanctioned strength. International students, excluding those under Government of India sponsored schemes, must submit their applications online through www.ucica.mgu.ac.in and pay a US$ 100 application fee before the deadline.

Specific additional seats have been created for other categories:

Candidates seeking admission under the Differently Abled category must upload an attested copy of their ‘Certificate of disability’ issued by a District Medical Board. Transgender students must apply online and submit their CAP application number to the colleges along with an identity card/certificate from the Social Justice Department. Orphan children and those from Government Children’s Homes also have specific application procedures involving online application and submission of relevant certificates.

Sports Quota Admissions

For Post Graduate programmes, one seat is reserved for every 20 seats under the Sports Quota, with provisions for interchangeability. The upper age limit for applying through the sports quota is 25 years. Candidates applying under the Sports Quota should apply online under the non-CAP category, but can also apply through CAP if they wish to be considered for general allotment.

Candidates awaiting final semester results for qualifying examinations, particularly for MBA, are permitted to apply but must submit their certificates and mark lists before the commencement of their first semester MBA examination.
