SLAT Legal Reasoning 2027: registration open, apply by December 4

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has opened registration for the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) 2027, the entrance exam for its undergraduate law programs. Aspiring candidates can register online at slat-test.org, with the application window closing on December 4, 2026. The examination is scheduled to be held in two phases in December 2026.

SLAT 2027 is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) designed for admission to Symbiosis Law Schools in Pune, Noida, Hyderabad, and Nagpur. Candidates have the option to appear for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 tests, with the higher score being considered for the final result. The exam assesses candidates across five sections, including Legal Reasoning.

SLAT 2027 Examination Schedule and Fees

The SLAT 2027 examination will be conducted in two distinct phases. Phase 1 is scheduled for December 19, 2026, with admit cards becoming available on December 11, 2026. Phase 2 will take place on December 26, 2026, and its admit cards will be released on December 18, 2026. The results for both phases are anticipated around January 12, 2027. The application fee for each test attempt is Rs. 2250.

Candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria, which require passing 10+2 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST categories) from a recognized board. Those awaiting their 12th-grade results are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the minimum marks requirement upon result declaration.

SLAT 2027 Exam Pattern and Legal Reasoning Section

The SLAT 2027 exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, with each question carrying 1 mark, totaling 60 marks. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The total duration of the online exam is 60 minutes. The question paper is divided into five sections: Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and General Knowledge. Each section carries equal weightage, with 12 questions and 12 marks allocated to each.

The Legal Reasoning section specifically evaluates a candidate’s ability to comprehend legal principles and apply them to given factual scenarios. Prior legal knowledge is not a prerequisite for this section, as it primarily tests reasoning skills. The syllabus for Legal Reasoning covers a range of topics, including constitutional law, torts, contracts, criminal law, and international law, among others.

Legal Reasoning Syllabus and Preparation

The Legal Reasoning section of SLAT 2027 includes topics such as the Constitution of India, Law of Torts, Law of Contract, Criminal Law, Family Law, International Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Legal Maxims, Legal Terms and Terminology, Landmark Judgments, and Legal Current Affairs. Candidates are advised to focus on understanding basic political knowledge and core legal concepts.
