Bihar FSO and Scientific Assistant recruitment 2026: apply for 111 posts by October 24

The Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) has initiated the online application process for 111 vacant posts of Food Safety Officer (FSO) and Scientific Assistant within the Health Department, Government of Bihar, Patna. The application window commenced on 25 September 2026 and will conclude on 24 October 2026.

This recruitment drive, notified on 26 September 2026, aims to fill 105 Food Safety Officer positions under Advertisement No. 29/2026 and 6 Scientific Assistant positions under Advertisement No. 30/2026. Eligible candidates are required to complete their applications and fee payment by the deadline.

Application Process and Key Dates

The online application process involves registration, filling in personal and educational details, uploading necessary documents, and paying the application fee. All candidates, regardless of category, are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹100, which can be submitted online via Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking.

Candidates must ensure that all required documents, including educational qualification certificates, experience certificates (for Scientific Assistant), category/reservation certificates, and domicile certificates, are issued on or before 24 October 2026. Eligibility Criteria and Age Limits

The minimum age to apply for both Food Safety Officer and Scientific Assistant posts is 21 years as of 01 August 2026. Maximum age limits vary by category, with Unreserved (UR/General) male candidates capped at 37 years and Unreserved (UR/General) female candidates at 40 years. BC/EBC male and female candidates have a maximum age of 40 years, while SC/ST male and female candidates can apply up to 42 years.

Age relaxation benefits are also provided: up to 10 years for Persons with Disabilities, up to 5 years for regular Bihar Government Employees with three or more years of service, and for Ex-Servicemen (service period plus 3 years, with a maximum age of 57 years). Reservation benefits are exclusively available to permanent residents of Bihar; candidates from other states will be considered under the Unreserved (General) category.

Educational Qualifications and Vacancies

For the Food Safety Officer post, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in relevant disciplines such as Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Medicine. The Food Safety Officer post carries a Pay Level-06 (Grade Pay ₹4,200/-) with a pay scale of ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400/-.

Scientific Assistant candidates are required to possess a B.Sc. in Chemistry or B.Pharm from a recognized university, along with 1 year of mandatory experience in drug testing and analysis. This post is at Pay Level-5. The recruitment includes a total of 111 vacancies, distributed across categories as detailed below.

Selection Process and Examination Details

The selection process for Food Safety Officer posts will involve a Written Competitive Examination (Computer-Based Test or CBT) followed by Document Verification. For Scientific Assistant posts, the selection process includes a CBT Exam and evaluation of Working Experience.

The Computer-Based Test will consist of 100 objective/multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark, for a total of 100 marks. The exam duration will be 120 minutes, and it will be conducted in both Hindi and English. A negative marking of 0.25 marks will be applied for each incorrect answer.
