About SWAYAM and NTA’s Role

SWAYAM is a Government of India initiative designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy: access, equity, and quality. It provides an integrated platform for online courses using information and communication technology, catering to learners from Class 9 to 12, undergraduates, and postgraduates across all subjects. Over 2,000 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), prepared by faculty and teachers nationwide, are hosted on SWAYAM. These interactive courses are available free of cost to learners.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization established by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, conducts these examinations. The NTA’s mandate is to conduct efficient, transparent, and international standards tests for admissions to premier higher education institutions. UGC and AICTE regulations allow up to 20% of online courses taken through SWAYAM to be counted for credit, enabling grades earned by successful students in conventional institutes to be transferred to their academic records.
