Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), formerly known as Marathwada University, was established on August 23, 1958 by the Maharashtra State Government. It is one of the oldest universities in Maharashtra and was renamed in 1994 in honour of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
The university is located in the historic city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), which has a rich cultural heritage as the seat of the Nizam’s domain and is famous for the Ajanta and Ellora caves.
