Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969, to commemorate the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the revered founder of Sikhism. It is both a residential and affiliating university, established under the Guru Nanak Dev University Act 1969. The university emphasizes education and research in humanities, learned professions, sciences (especially applied sciences), and technology.
