Teach For India Fellowship 2027 applications open: apply by 1 November

Teach For India has announced that applications are open for its 2027 Fellowship, a two-year education and leadership program. Prospective fellows can apply until 11:59 PM IST on Sunday, 1 November 2026. The fellowship aims to engage individuals in educational transformation across India.

The program places fellows as full-time teachers in English medium government or affordable private schools in one of nine cities. This initiative is designed for individuals seeking to contribute to educational equity while developing leadership and problem-solving skills.

Fellowship Structure and Placements

The Teach For India Fellowship is a two-year commitment where fellows are placed in grade 1-10 classrooms, teaching between 40 and 80 students. Fellows may serve as class teachers, in charge of all subjects, or as subject teachers, focusing on specific disciplines such as English, Maths, Social Studies, or Science. The program is currently active in eight cities, with approximately 1,000 fellows teaching across these locations.

The fellowship offers placements in nine cities across India. Fellows relocating to a different city become eligible for a housing allowance once they move to their designated Teach For India placement city.

Eligibility and Application Process

To be eligible for the Teach For India Fellowship 2027, applicants must be Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and must complete their graduation by June/July 2027. The selection criteria emphasize a belief in equitable education, leadership potential, courage, perseverance, critical thinking, and openness to collaboration. Fellows in previous cohorts have ranged in age from 22 to 64 and represent diverse professional backgrounds from over 500 universities and 300 organisations.

The application process consists of three main stages, beginning with an online application form. This form requires details about academic background, work experiences, interests, achievements, and motivation for joining the fellowship. It also includes an English Assessment, which applicants have a maximum of 25 minutes to complete. Successful applicants proceed to a telephonic interview, followed by a final assessment.

The final assessment, described by Teach For India as an immersive experience, includes sample teaching, group activities, a critical-thinking assessment, and an interview. This stage can be attended either online or in person. Teach For India states that the Assessment Centre is designed to provide insight into the life of a Fellow while helping the organisation understand applicants’ potential and suitability for the programme.

Fellow Benefits and Professional Development

Selected fellows receive a monthly stipend of ₹30,000. Also, a housing allowance ranging from ₹6,000 to ₹12,600 is provided, with the amount varying based on the placement city. Reimbursements for work-related expenses, such as school supplies, are provided on a per-child cost basis. Fellows are also covered by health insurance up to ₹1,00,000 and have access to free counselling services.

The fellowship includes provisions for casual and sick leave, national, regional, and school holidays, and a summer break. Teach For India states that the fellowship focuses on three broad areas of personal and professional development: reimagining, leading, and growing. The program aims to strengthen abilities in problem-solving, working with diverse groups, adapting to challenges, and developing leadership skills, which are intended to be useful for careers in various sectors.

The Teach For India network includes over 5,500 individuals who have completed the Fellowship. This alumni network, along with the global Teach For All network spanning 62+ countries, provides fellows with access to support and connections. Teach For India highlights that alumni, such as Sarthak Satapathy, a 2013 Fellow who contributed to India’s DIKSHA programme, have gone on to work across different sectors, illustrating the career pathways available post-fellowship.
