NIFT Releases Physical Assessment Status for PwD Category at nift.ac.in/admission; Candidates Asked to Check Status Online
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has released the Physical Assessment Status for candidates belonging to the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category. Candidates who appeared for the mandatory physical assessment can now check their status through the official admission portal. The status list has been made available online at the official website, nift.ac.in/admission. Candidates are advised to visit the portal and verify their assessment status at the earliest.
The announcement comes as part of the ongoing NIFT 2026 admission and counselling process. The physical assessment was conducted for candidates seeking admission under the PwD reservation category. According to NIFT, appearing in this assessment was compulsory for all eligible candidates claiming reservation under the PwD category. Candidates who did not attend the assessment may not be considered during the seat allocation process.
Physical Assessment Conducted on June 19
NIFT had earlier conducted the Physical Assessment for PwD candidates on June 19, 2026, at designated NIFT campuses across the country. The assessment was held at 10 AM at campuses allotted to candidates as per the official notification issued by the institute. The evaluation was carried out by the NIFT Evaluation Committee.
The committee examined the physical and psychological capabilities of candidates in relation to the academic programmes for which they had applied. This assessment plays a crucial role in determining whether a candidate is eligible to avail reservation benefits under the PwD category during admissions.
Why the Physical Assessment is Important
The physical assessment is an essential stage in the NIFT admission process for candidates applying under the Persons with Disabilities category. The purpose of the assessment is not to disqualify candidates but to evaluate their abilities and determine suitable accommodations and support during academic programmes.
NIFT offers a wide range of design, fashion technology, and management programmes that involve practical training, studio work, and technical activities. Therefore, the institute assesses the candidate’s capabilities to ensure that necessary support mechanisms can be provided during the course of study.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment and are found eligible will be able to participate in the subsequent stages of the counselling and seat allotment process under the PwD category.
Candidates Can Check Status Online
Candidates who attended the assessment can now verify their status by following a few simple steps on the official website.

Step 1: Visit the official NIFT admission website.
Step 2: On the homepage, locate the link related to “Physical Assessment Status for PwD Category.”
Step 3: Click on the notification link.
Step 4: The assessment status PDF or candidate list will appear on the screen.
Step 5: Search for your application number or relevant details.

Candidates should carefully check all details mentioned in the notification and immediately contact the admission authorities if they notice any discrepancies.
Non-Attendance May Affect Admission
NIFT has clearly stated that candidates who failed to appear before the Evaluation Committee on the scheduled date may not be considered for seat allocation under the PwD category. Attendance during the assessment process was mandatory for all candidates seeking reservation benefits.
The institute had informed candidates in advance about the assessment schedule, venue details, and required documents. Those who remained absent without valid reasons may lose the opportunity to claim admission under the reserved category.
Documents Required During Assessment
At the time of physical assessment, candidates were required to carry original documents along with self-attested photocopies. Some of the important documents included:
- Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card
- Class 10 certificate or date of birth proof
- Class 12 mark sheet and certificate
- Relevant medical reports and prescriptions
- Category certificate, if applicable
- NIFT 2026 scorecard
- Passport-size photograph
The institute had specified that the UDID card was mandatory for all candidates appearing for the assessment.
NIFT Counselling Process Underway
The release of the physical assessment status is a significant development in the ongoing NIFT 2026 counselling process. The institute is currently conducting online counselling for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered across various NIFT campuses.
Candidates whose assessment status is found satisfactory will be able to participate in seat allocation rounds according to their merit rank, category, and programme preferences. Seat allotment will be carried out based on the availability of seats and candidates’ choices filled during counselling.
Applicants are advised to regularly monitor the official NIFT admission portal for updates regarding counselling schedules, seat allotment results, fee payment deadlines, and document verification procedures.
