NLU Delhi, Mentblue Launch Certificate Course on IPR Law & Practice; Registration Open
In a significant step towards bridging the gap between legal education and professional practice, National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) has partnered with Mentblue to launch a new Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR): Law & Practice. The course aims to provide practical exposure to intellectual property law and equip participants with industry-relevant skills required in today’s rapidly evolving legal landscape. Registrations for the programme are now open, and the course is scheduled to begin on May 30, 2026.
The newly introduced certificate programme is being offered through the Centre for Regulatory Studies (CRS) at NLU Delhi in collaboration with Mentblue. It forms part of “The Practice Series,” an initiative designed to provide hands-on learning experiences and practical legal training to students, young professionals, and practitioners.
Growing Importance of Intellectual Property Law
Intellectual Property Rights have become one of the most important areas of legal practice in India and across the world. As innovation, technology, artificial intelligence, digital content creation, and startup ecosystems continue to grow, the demand for legal professionals with expertise in patents, trademarks, copyrights, designs, and licensing has increased significantly.
Businesses today rely heavily on intellectual property assets to protect their innovations, brands, and creative works. As a result, organizations are increasingly seeking legal experts who not only understand the law but can also handle practical IP-related matters effectively.
Recognizing this need, NLU Delhi and Mentblue have developed a course that goes beyond theoretical learning and focuses on the practical application of intellectual property laws in real-world scenarios.
Objective of the Course
According to the organisers, the programme has been designed to address the gap between academic understanding of IP law and its actual practice in law firms, corporations, and litigation environments.
While law schools provide students with a strong foundation in intellectual property legislation and legal principles, many graduates enter the profession with limited exposure to drafting, prosecution, licensing, enforcement, and portfolio management. The new certificate course seeks to fill this gap by offering practitioner-led training and practical workshops.
The programme aims to prepare participants for professional roles in law firms, corporate legal departments, intellectual property consultancies, startups, and policy organizations.
Practitioner-Led Learning Experience
One of the major highlights of the course is its faculty composition. The programme brings together experienced intellectual property practitioners and legal experts from some of India’s leading law firms and organizations.
Participants will learn directly from professionals who regularly advise clients on intellectual property matters, conduct litigation, manage licensing transactions, and develop IP strategies for businesses.
The faculty includes senior practitioners associated with reputed firms such as Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co., Anand & Anand, ZEUS IP, and CMS INDUSLAW. These experts will share practical insights based on their professional experiences and current industry practices.
This practitioner-focused approach is expected to provide participants with a deeper understanding of how intellectual property law operates in real business and legal environments.

- Intellectual property strategy for businesses
Participants will gain exposure to the sequence of activities involved in handling actual intellectual property matters from inception to resolution.
The programme seeks to help learners understand not only legal provisions but also the commercial and strategic dimensions of intellectual property rights.
Practical Drafting Workshops
Another important feature of the course is its emphasis on practical drafting and documentation skills.
The organisers have included several interactive workshops where participants will work on real-life legal documents commonly used in intellectual property practice. These exercises are intended to help learners develop drafting proficiency and understand the practical nuances involved in IP-related transactions and disputes.
The workshops are expected to cover:
- Trademark examination reports
- Cease-and-desist notices
- Licensing agreements
- Patent claims
- Commercial contracts involving IP assets
- Enforcement-related documentation
Such hands-on training can be particularly beneficial for law students and young professionals who are preparing to enter the legal profession.
Course Structure and Duration
The certificate programme is designed as a structured learning experience comprising multiple sessions delivered over several weeks.
According to information available from Mentblue, the course consists of 15 sessions and follows a practitioner-led teaching model. The classes are intended to provide an intensive understanding of intellectual property law and practice through lectures, discussions, assignments, and practical exercises.
The live sessions will be conducted during weekends, allowing students and working professionals to participate without disrupting their regular academic or professional commitments. The programme will continue through July 2026.

The course has been designed for a broad audience interested in intellectual property law and related fields.
Potential participants include:

The programme may also be valuable for individuals working in innovation-driven industries where intellectual property protection plays an important role.
By combining legal concepts with practical applications, the course aims to serve both beginners and those looking to strengthen their professional expertise in IP law.
Why Intellectual Property Skills Matter Today
India’s innovation ecosystem has expanded rapidly in recent years. Startups, technology companies, pharmaceutical firms, research institutions, entertainment businesses, and creative industries are generating valuable intellectual property assets at an unprecedented pace.
As businesses become increasingly dependent on intangible assets, intellectual property protection has become a strategic necessity. Legal professionals with expertise in trademarks, copyrights, patents, and licensing are therefore in high demand.
Industry experts note that employers increasingly prefer candidates who can contribute from day one rather than requiring extensive on-the-job training. Courses that combine academic knowledge with practical exposure can help learners become more industry-ready and improve their career prospects.
The launch of this programme reflects the growing emphasis on skill-based legal education and professional training in India.
