CLAT Cutoff 2 Released: Consortium Publishes Second Allotment List
The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released the second cutoff list for CLAT admissions on 22nd January at 10:00 AM, marking an important step in the 2026 counselling process. The Round 2 cutoffs were published on the official CLAT counselling portal for both UG (LLB) and PG (LLM) programmes.
Candidates who participated in counselling can now check their updated rank-wise and category-wise cutoffs and view whether they have been allotted a seat or moved up to a higher preference NLU.
What Is CLAT Cutoff Round 2?
The CLAT Round 2 cutoff is released after candidates accept or exit seats allotted in Round 1. Based on seat availability, withdrawals, and category-wise vacancy positions, the Consortium revises the cutoff ranks and releases the second allotment list.
In most NLUs, Round 2 cutoffs are slightly lower than Round 1, allowing candidates with higher ranks another chance to secure admission.
Key Highlights of CLAT Cutoff 2
-
Cutoffs have been released for all participating NLUs
-
Both UG and PG programmes are covered
-
Category-wise ranks include General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD
-
Several NLUs have seen a drop in cutoff ranks compared to Round 1
-
Candidates may be upgraded to a better preferred NLU
Top NLUs such as NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, NLU Delhi (where applicable), WBNUJS Kolkata, and NLU Jodhpur continue to have competitive cutoffs, though minor changes are visible in reserved categories.
What Candidates Should Do Now?
Candidates allotted a seat in Round 2 must complete the next steps within the given deadline:
-
Confirm or upgrade the seat on the counselling portal
-
Pay the required confirmation fee
-
Upload documents if asked
-
Choose whether to freeze, float, or exit
Failure to complete these steps may lead to cancellation of the allotted seat and removal from further rounds.
Seat Upgrade and Preference Change
Candidates who already accepted a seat in Round 1 may receive an upgraded NLU in Round 2 if their rank matches the revised cutoff. The upgrade depends on:
-
Rank position
-
Availability of seats
-
Candidate’s preference order
Those satisfied with their current allotment can choose the freeze option to secure their seat.
What to Expect Next?
The Consortium is expected to release CLAT Cutoff Round 3 after completion of Round 2 admissions. Historically, later rounds see a further drop in cutoffs, especially in mid- and lower-ranked NLUs.
Candidates are advised to regularly check the official portal and keep documents ready for quick verification.
Important Reminder
The cutoff rank is not the same for every category or NLU. Candidates should check their specific category and course cutoff before making decisions.
The CLAT counselling process remains competitive, and timely action is crucial to avoid missing out on admission.
