The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has released the eligibility criteria for the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) for admission to engineering and architecture courses for the academic year 2026-2027. These criteria are designed to determine the merit of students seeking admission to member institutions across Karnataka and ensure candidates meet foundational requirements for undergraduate programs.

The updated criteria introduce several changes, particularly for engineering course subject requirements and age limits for the 2027 examination, affecting a lot of aspirants seeking admission to private professional colleges in the state. COMEDK is doing organizing a common entrance test for this academic year.
Changes in Engineering Course Eligibility
A significant change has been introduced for engineering course applicants from the 2026 academic year. Until 2025, candidates were required to have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject in Class 12. From 2026 onwards, candidates can now substitute Chemistry with Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science, or Electronics as an optional subject for engineering courses.
For B.E./B.Tech admissions, the qualifying examination remains the second PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or an equivalent recognized by the State/Central Government. The last two years of study must include Physics, Chemistry (or the newly added optional subjects), and Mathematics, with English as a compulsory subject. Physics and Mathematics are mandatory subjects. General Merit candidates must secure a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, while SC, ST, and OBC candidates of Karnataka State require a minimum aggregate of 40% marks in these subjects. Candidates must also have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects individually. Diploma candidates are not eligible for the engineering entrance test as there are no lateral entry admissions.
| Category | Minimum Aggregate Marks in PCM |
|---|---|
| General Merit | 45% |
| SC, ST, and OBC candidates of Karnataka State | 40% |
An attempt in the COMEDK Entrance Test for Engineering courses is considered sufficient for inclusion in the rank list. The COMEDK UGET application form for 2026 is anticipated to open by February 2026.
Architecture Course Requirements and Entrance Tests
For Architecture courses, candidates must have passed the qualifying examination (PUC or 10+2) with Mathematics as one of the mandatory subjects. Alternatively, a candidate who has passed a 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics as a compulsory subject, securing an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC, ST, and OBC candidates of Karnataka), is also eligible for admission. For Architecture, candidates must have cleared the 10+2 scheme of examination with 50% marks in aggregate (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
Notably, for admissions to B.Arch courses through COMEDK for the 2026 academic year, no separate COMEDK entrance test is required. However, candidates must have cleared the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) with minimum cutoff marks in two individual components and qualifying marks in aggregate. For COMEDK UGET 2027, candidates for Architecture courses will need a valid National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) or Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) score.
Age Limit and Nationality Criteria
For COMEDK UGET 2026, candidates must be Indian citizens and have completed 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2026. There is no specific upper age limit prescribed by COMEDK for 2026. However, for COMEDK UGET 2027, the age limit criteria have been further relaxed, with no minimum and maximum age restriction specified.
Furthermore, for COMEDK UGET 2027, the nationality criteria have been expanded. While Indian citizens are eligible for 2026, for 2027, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) are also eligible to apply. Any changes in eligibility criteria by AICTE/VTU will be adopted by COMEDK.
| Particular | Eligibility Criteria |
|---|---|
| Academic Qualification | Qualified 10 + 2 with 45% aggregate marks or any other equivalent examination with PCM and English. * 5% relaxation is available for reserved category candidates belonging to the Karnataka state. |
| Age Limit | No minimum and maximum age restriction. |
| Nationality | Must be an Indian Citizen / Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) / Person of Indian origin (PIO). |
Reservation Policies and Next Steps
COMEDK promotes equal opportunities by offering category-based relaxations and a lack of domicile restrictions for general merit seats. For candidates seeking Karnataka-specific reservations, a valid Karnataka domicile certificate is mandatory. Candidates claiming seats under the Kalyana Karnataka Region (KKR/HK) quota must provide both a KKR/HK certificate and a Karnataka domicile certificate during counselling.
| Region | Eligibility to Get Reservation |
|---|---|
| KKR / HK Region | Must be a KKR / HK region candidate. Must have Kalyana Karnataka (KKR / HK Region) certificate and Karnataka Domicile Certificate. |
Candidates are advised to thoroughly check the COMEDK eligibility criteria on the official portal, comedk.org, before filling out the application form. Applicants can only fill out the form through the COMEDK UGET login 2026. Students must apply before the last date by completing all required steps. Aspirants are required to submit the original Class 12th or its equivalent examination certificate at the time of counselling to prove their eligibility.
