Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (MITS), Gwalior was established in 1957 by the visionary Late His Highness Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia. Located in Gola Ka Mandir, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, MITS is one of the oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions in Central India. The institute was named after Late H.H. Madhav Rao Scindia in honor of the Scindia royal family’s contribution to education.
In March 2024, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on the advice of the UGC, declared Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior as an Institution Deemed to be University under distinct category. This recognition elevated MITS to MITS-DU status, allowing it to award its own degrees while maintaining its legacy of excellence.
The institute is accredited by NAAC with the highest A++ Grade and has NBA accreditation for Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering programs. MITS is approved by UGC and AICTE and was earlier affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal. It is recognized as a Quality Improvement Program (QIP) Center for PG and Ph.D students and serves as a study center of IGNOU and Nodal Centre of RGPV.
