BITS Pilani, an Institute of Eminence, announced on 1 November 2026, that it will offer full tuition scholarships for four years to the top 1,000 BITSAT rankers, commencing from the 2027 academic year. This initiative is designed to address long-standing concerns among applicants regarding the cost of studying at the institute.

The new scholarship program aims to make admissions more merit-driven and attract a wider talent pool by making quality education more accessible. Previously, BITS Pilani supported approximately a quarter of its students through various merit and merit-cum-need scholarships, but the perception of high fees often deterred capable candidates. The institute describes this new initiative as ‘tuition-blind admissions’.
Scholarship Eligibility and Continuation Criteria
The full tuition scholarships are specifically for the top 1,000 rankers in the BITSAT entrance examination. To be eligible, scholarship recipients must belong to households with an annual family income of up to Rs 20 lakh. This condition aims to include middle-class households in the program.
For the scholarship to continue throughout the four-year duration, recipients are required to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.5. This academic requirement adds a performance-based dimension to the scholarship program, ensuring sustained academic effort from beneficiaries.
Tuition-Blind Admissions Initiative
The new initiative, referred to as ‘tuition-blind admissions’, is specifically targeted at the top 500 rankers. Students with a rank below 500 will also be eligible for a full tuition scholarship, extending the benefit to a broader segment of high-achieving candidates.
This program marks an expansion of BITS Pilani’s existing scholarship framework, which previously offered tuition fee waivers ranging from 10% to 100%. The institute’s decision to offer full tuition scholarships for the top 1,000 rankers is a significant step towards mitigating financial barriers for prospective students.
