Factors Influencing CLAT Cutoffs
The CLAT cutoff refers to the minimum scores or ranks required for admission to various National Law Universities (NLUs) and other participating law schools. Several factors contribute to the determination of these cutoffs. The difficulty level of the exam is a crucial factor; a more difficult test generally results in a lower cut-off score. Conversely, if the number of applicants drastically increases while the number of seats remains constant, the cut-off tends to rise.
The availability of seats in each institution also plays a role. The Consortium of NLUs may release multiple allotment lists to fill available seats, with subsequent lists often showing noticeable rank relaxation. These multiple allotment lists are published until all seats are filled, considering seat availability and reservation criteria, which include categories such as General, SC, ST, OBC, and PwD.
