Gauhati University to Conduct Common Entrance Test For Law Admissions From 2026; Check Details

Gauhati University has introduced a major change to its law admission process. Starting from the 2026 academic session, the university is conducting a mandatory Common Admission Test (CAT) for all undergraduate law programs.

This new rule means that law aspirants will no longer have to fill out separate applications or take individual entrance exams for different colleges. A single common entrance test will now handle admissions for all law colleges affiliated with Gauhati University across Assam.

Which Law Courses Are Covered Under GU CAT 2026?

The newly implemented Gauhati University Law Common Entrance Test is the single point of entry for the following legal programs:

  • 5-Year Integrated Law Programmes: This includes BA LLB, BA LLB (Hons), BCom LLB, BCom LLB (Hons), and BBA LLB options for students looking to enter law right after high school.

Important Note: As per the Government of Assam’s directive, this centralized test is mandatory for all private and government law colleges affiliated with Gauhati University, as well as other state universities, excluding Dibrugarh University. No affiliated college is allowed to conduct its own private selection tests from this year onward.
