The IOQM 2026 examination, the initial stage of the Indian Mathematical Olympiad program, was conducted on September 6, 2026. This announcement follows the release of IOQM scores on student login on October 7, 2026, and a subsequent window for reporting score inaccuracies until October 9, 2026.

IOQM 2026 Qualifying Criteria for RMO

To qualify for the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) 2026, students must achieve a minimum of 10% of the total 100 marks in the IOQM exam. Beyond this threshold, qualification is determined by regional merit lists. For Category A, which includes students from Classes 8-11, the top 200 students from each region will qualify. Also, five girls from Category A will qualify from each region, over and above the general top 200.

For Category B, comprising Class 12 students, the top 40 students from each region will qualify for RMO 2026. There is no separate girls’ quota for Category B. IOQM 2026 certificates will be awarded to all students who score at least 10% of the total marks.

Key Dates for the Mathematical Olympiad Program

The RMO 2026 examination is scheduled for November 15, 2026. Following the RMO, successful candidates will progress to the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) 2027, which is slated for January 17, 2027. Student enrollment for IOQM 2026 commenced on June 30, 2026, and concluded on July 27, 2026, while centre registration ran from June 1, 2026, to June 26, 2026.

The IOQM is a multi-stage program designed to identify and nurture mathematical talent, potentially leading to participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Students who qualified in IOQM 2026 are advised to regularly check the official website for updates on RMO 2026 registration and guidelines.

Comparison with IOQM 2025 Cycle

The IOQM 2025 results were declared on October 15, 2025, with provisional scores announced on October 16, 2025. Challenges to these provisional scores were accepted until October 20, 2025. The final results for IOQM 2025 were announced by October 24, 2025. The RMO 2025 was scheduled for November 16, 2025.

The IOQM 2025 exam was conducted in two sessions, on September 7, 2025, and September 28, 2025, necessitating normalization of scores to ensure fairness between the two exam dates. This normalization process involved using September 7 scores as a reference and scaling up September 28 scores. The 2026 cycle, having a single exam date, did not require such normalization.
