  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the official notification and information bulletin for JEE Main 2027 in October-November 2026.
  • JEE Main 2027 will be conducted in two sessions, in January and April, with online registration for Session 1 expected to open in October-November 2026.
  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) will feature 75 compulsory questions for 300 marks, while Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) will have 77 and 100 questions respectively, each for 400 marks.
  • Candidates must complete the application process online, including a live photo capture and online fee payment, with an Aadhaar Card mandatory for Indian nationals.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the expected syllabus for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2027, which will serve as the qualifying examination for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions, as well as for JEE Advanced 2027. While the official notification from the NTA is yet to be published as of October 25, 2026, the outlined syllabus and exam pattern are based on consistent trends observed in the JEE Main 2025 and 2026 cycles.

The JEE Main 2027 examination is scheduled to be held in two sessions, in January and April 2027. The syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, primarily drawing from the NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 curricula. The NTA has historically released the JEE Main information bulletin in October or early November of the preceding year, and a similar timeline is anticipated for the 2027 cycle.

Changes in JEE Main 2027 Syllabus

The NTA has trimmed certain topics from the JEE Main syllabus for 2027, aligning it more closely with the NCERT curriculum. While no major overall change is expected, specific units have been removed across the three subjects. The 2026 syllabus, which included 20 units in Physics, 20 in Chemistry, and 14 in Mathematics, is considered the safest guide for preparation until the official 2027 document is released with the information bulletin.

In Physics, the ‘Communication Systems’ unit has been removed. The Chemistry syllabus has seen more extensive removals, including ‘States of Matter’, ‘Surface Chemistry’, ‘Hydrogen’, ‘s-Block Elements’, ‘Isolation of Metals’, ‘Environmental Chemistry’, ‘Polymers’, and ‘Chemistry in Everyday Life’. For Mathematics, the removed topics are ‘Mathematical Induction’, ‘Mathematical Reasoning’, and ‘Linear Programming’. The Physics syllabus continues to include 20 units, with ‘Experimental Skills’ being one of them, while Chemistry maintains 20 units across Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry, and Mathematics retains 14 units.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The JEE Main 2027 exam pattern is expected to remain unchanged from the 2026 structure, with the NTA having reverted to a pre-pandemic format since 2025 where all questions are compulsory. Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) will consist of 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 15 Numerical Value Questions (NVQs), totaling 75 questions for 300 marks. For this paper, correct answers will be awarded +4 marks, while incorrect answers will incur a penalty of -1 mark.

Paper 2A (B.Arch) will have 77 questions for 400 marks, combining a Computer Based Test (CBT) for Mathematics and Aptitude with a pen-and-paper Drawing Test. Paper 2B (B.Planning) will comprise 100 questions for 400 marks, conducted entirely via CBT. The exam duration for Paper 1 is 3 hours. Candidates appearing for both Paper 2A and Paper 2B together will have an exam duration of 3 hours 30 minutes. Shift 1 timing is 9 AM to 12 PM, and Shift 2 timing is 3 PM to 6 PM.
