JEE Main 2027: Register now; exams begin last week of January

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released information regarding the JEE Main Mathematics question paper and exam pattern, coinciding with the opening of registration for JEE Main 2027. The JEE Main examination serves as a gateway to admission into BE/BTech programmes at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs across India.

The JEE Main 2027 exams are scheduled to take place from the last week of January 2027. This information aims to assist students in preparing for the Mathematics section by providing clarity on the paper structure, key topics, and question formats. Approximately 13 lakh students registered for JEE Main 2025, indicating the competitive nature of the examination.

JEE Main Mathematics Paper Structure and Marking

The Mathematics question paper is a component of Paper 1, which is designed for B.E./B. Tech aspirants. This section contributes 100 marks towards the total 300 marks of the JEE Main examination. The Mathematics section consists of 25 questions, divided into two parts: 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in Section A and 5 numerical-value questions in Section B.

Questions in the Mathematics section are based on the prescribed JEE Mains syllabus, covering topics such as algebra, calculus, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, vectors, and three-dimensional geometry. Positive marks are awarded for each correct answer in MCQs, while incorrect answers in MCQs incur negative marking. Notably, negative marking does not apply to numerical-based questions. The overall duration of the JEE Main exam is 3 hours, and it is conducted in a computer-based mode.

JEE Main Exam Schedule and Past Sessions

The registration for JEE Main 2027 has commenced, with the to start session of exams slated for the last week of January 2027. For JEE Main 2025, Session 2 is scheduled to be held from April 01 to April 08, 2025. The NTA has also notified a significant change in the JEE Mains exam pattern for 2025.

Previous sessions of the JEE Main exam have been conducted across multiple dates. JEE Main 2024 Session 1 took place on January 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 01, 2024. Session 2 of JEE Main 2024 was conducted on April 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 12, 2024. Also, JEE Main 2024 also included June and July Sessions.

Resources for JEE Main Mathematics Preparation

The National Testing Agency provides various resources to aid students in their preparation for the JEE Main Mathematics section. Official JEE Main previous year papers, along with their solutions and recorded responses, are published on the official JEE Main and National Testing Agency websites. The NTA notice archive also contains final answer keys and examination notices from past sessions.

Students can access topic-wise practice test papers for various Mathematics subjects. These include 3D Geometry, Binomial Theorem, Complex Number, Integration, Differential Calculus, Matrices & Determinants, Progressions, Quadratic Equation, Relations & Functions, Straight Lines, Trigonometry, Vector, Binomial and PnC, and Algebra. Solving these papers helps in understanding the question paper pattern, actual difficulty level, and time required to complete the exam. While exact questions rarely repeat, concepts, question styles, and difficulty levels often remain similar each year.

Memory-based paper solutions and analysis from previous shifts are also available, offering insights into the exam. For instance, solutions for various shifts of JEE Main 2024 April and January sessions have been published, providing detailed breakdowns of questions and answers.
