Registration for this session is expected to begin in October 2026.
JEE Main is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the NTA for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), and other participating institutions. It also serves as the eligibility route for candidates seeking to appear for JEE Advanced, with only the top 2,50,000 JEE Main qualifiers eligible for the advanced examination.
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 Exam and Registration Schedule
The NTA announced the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 exam dates as part of its major examination calendar from December 2026 to March 2027. While the official date for JEE Main 2027 registration has not yet been declared by the NTA, registration for the January session is anticipated to open in the last week of October or around November 2026. This aligns with previous cycles where registration typically opened at the end of October or on November 1.
The JEE Main exam is conducted in two sessions, commonly referred to as the January and April sessions. The two-session system allows candidates to attempt one or both sessions, with the better score counting for admission purposes. Session 2 registration is expected to open in January 2027. A separate information bulletin will be released by the NTA to provide detailed details regarding the application process, eligibility criteria, examination cities, admit cards, answer keys, and results.

To be eligible for JEE Main 2027, candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Students who passed Class 12 in 2025, 2026, or are appearing in 2027 are eligible. There is no upper age limit to appear for JEE Main, and candidates are generally permitted to appear in three consecutive years, with two sessions available each year.
For admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must score a minimum of 75% aggregate in Class 12 or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board. For SC/ST candidates, a 65% aggregate in Class 12 is required for these institutions. The application process will require an Aadhaar Card for Aadhaar-based auto-fill and identity verification. A new requirement expected for 2027 is the APAAR ID (Academic Bank of Credits ID). Also, a live photograph capture during online registration, introduced in 2026, will continue for the 2027 cycle.

| Paper 2B: B.Planning | Mathematics |
Examination Pattern and Syllabus
The JEE Main 2027 exam pattern for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is expected to remain a computer-based test covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam will consist of 75 questions, with a maximum of 300 marks. The marking scheme awards four marks for a correct answer and deducts one mark for a wrong answer. The duration of the exam is three hours.
The syllabus for JEE Main 2027 is drawn from the Class 11 and 12 curriculum across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, aligned with the NCERT curriculum. Before the admit card is released, a city intimation slip will provide information about the examination city. The admit card will contain details about the examination centre and other necessary entry information. The NTA has been implementing examination reforms, suggesting a more secure and closely supervised process for JEE Main.
