I Logged in With My Father’s DigiLocker by Mistake. How Do I Fix My JEE Main Application?
Why it happens
JEE Main 2027 registration uses MeriPehchaan, the government single sign-on that links DigiLocker, JanParichay and e-Pramaan. A parent’s phone is often already signed in to the parent’s DigiLocker, so the form picks up the parent’s identity. Candidates usually notice at the live photo stage, or when a fresh start shows a “credentials already exist” type of message. NTA’s advisory of 28 October 2026 asks candidates to use their own credentials to avoid identity and biometric mismatches later.
Step-by-step fix
- Log out of DigiLocker and MeriPehchaan, or use a private browser window.
- Sign in to your own DigiLocker, linked to your own Aadhaar, and complete Aadhaar Re-KYC (steps are in the checklist below).
- If you have not paid on the wrong form, register again with your own login.
- If you have paid, NTA’s clarification of 30 October 2026 still allows a fresh form. Pay and download the new Confirmation Page by 22 November, or by 26 November with the late fee. Only this last paid form counts.
- Note both Application Numbers, and use only the valid one from here on.
What not to do
- Do not finish the form with your parent’s identity and hope to fix it in the correction window.
- Do not reuse the same mobile number and email address. The Bulletin allows each to be used for one application only.
When to contact the helpdesk
If the portal stops you from registering with your own credentials, call 011-40759000 / 011-69227700 or email jeemain@nta.ac.in. Have the old Application Number and a screenshot of the error ready.
My DigiLocker Photo Is Years Old. Will It Clash With the Live Photograph?
Why it happens
The Bulletin requires a live photograph to be captured during the form, as well as a scanned passport-size photo. NTA reserves the right to verify photographs. DigiLocker shows your Aadhaar photo, which may have been taken when you were a child.
Step-by-step fix
- Do Aadhaar Re-KYC in DigiLocker before starting the form, as the advisory recommends.
- For the live photo, use the device’s camera or webcam. If it has none, the Bulletin allows you to scan a QR code and capture the photo on a phone or tablet.
- Use a white background and good light, keep 80% of the face visible including ears, and do not wear a mask.
- Upload a recent colour passport-size photo in JPG/JPEG format, between 10 kB and 200 kB.
- If you did Re-KYC after creating the application, NTA has not published a way to refresh the photo in an existing form. Ask the helpdesk, or use the fresh-form route if other details are also wrong.
What not to do
Do not upload an old, filtered or borrowed photo. Using someone else’s photograph is treated as Unfair Means.
When to contact the helpdesk
Contact the helpdesk if the live capture keeps failing, or if the photo on your Confirmation Page is not yours.
My Aadhaar Photo Is Not Updated and an Update Takes Weeks. Will My JEE Main Form Be Affected?
Why it happens
A photo change in Aadhaar is a biometric update. It is done at an Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre, not online, and takes time to process. The Bulletin advises candidates to keep their Aadhaar photo, name, date of birth and address updated as per UIDAI guidelines. It does not say a form will be rejected because the Aadhaar photo is old.
Step-by-step fix
- Book an update through uidai.gov.in and track it with the Update Request Number (URN).
- Do not hold back your application. Fill the form with a correct live photo and a recent scanned photo before 22 November.
- When the update is done, redo Re-KYC in DigiLocker.
- On exam day, carry an original photo ID. The Bulletin accepts school ID, PAN, driving licence, voter ID, passport, Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar with photo, or a Class 12 admit card with photo.
What not to do
Do not miss the deadline while waiting for UIDAI, and do not file a second form only to change the photo.
When to contact the helpdesk
Contact the helpdesk if verification blocks the form because of the photo. More on documents is in JEE Main 2027: register, upload documents and update Aadhaar.
Why Am I Getting an APAAR ID Match Failure During JEE Main Registration?
Why it happens
Several candidates have reported an “APAAR ID match failure” since 1 November 2026. The Bulletin lists APAAR as one of the eKYC options on MeriPehchaan, along with Aadhaar, PAN and driving licence. A failure usually means the name, date of birth or gender in your APAAR record differs from your other identity records. NTA has not issued a notice on this error.
Step-by-step fix
- Compare your APAAR details on apaar.education.gov.in or in DigiLocker with your Aadhaar and Class 10 certificate.
- If another eKYC option (Aadhaar, PAN or driving licence) is offered, verify with that instead.
- If your APAAR details are wrong, ask your school, which created the ID, to correct them.
- Retry outside peak hours and screenshot the exact error.
What not to do
Do not create a second DigiLocker or APAAR account with different spellings. That creates the kind of identity mismatch NTA warns about.
When to contact the helpdesk
If the error continues and the deadline is near, email jeemain@nta.ac.in with the screenshot, the date and time of the error, and your Application Number. Phone the helpdesk as well.
Should I Fill a Fresh JEE Main Form or Wait for the Correction Window?
Why it happens
The Bulletin allows only one application per candidate. On 30 October, NTA relaxed this for Session 1 and permitted a fresh form even after payment. Our news report covers the fresh application option. Use this table to decide:
| Your situation | Better route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong DigiLocker login or wrong identity fetched | Fresh form | Identity comes from the login, and NTA asks candidates to use their own |
| Name or date of birth does not match Class 10 | Fresh form if the field was fetched from your login; otherwise check the correction window | The list of editable fields is published only when the window opens |
| Small error (exam city, address, parents’ names) | Correction window, 27 to 29 November | NTA advises correction for small changes; a fresh form costs another fee |
| Wrong photo, signature or Class 10 upload | Correction window if the field is enabled; otherwise a fresh form by 22 or 26 November | Editable fields are confirmed only when the window opens |
| Fresh form started but unpaid | Nothing to do | The earlier paid form stays valid |
| Error found after 26 November | Correction window only | Fresh forms close on 26 November |
Step-by-step fix (fresh form)
- Register again. You will get a new Application Number.
- Enter every detail again and upload the photo, signature and documents again.
- Pay and download the Confirmation Page. The earlier fee is not refunded or adjusted.
- Use only this Application Number for the city slip, the admit card and the exam.
What not to do
Do not appear, or try to appear, with more than one Application Number. That counts as Unfair Means. Holding more than one number does not. Do not file a fresh form for something the correction window can fix.
When to contact the helpdesk
If you paid but no Confirmation Page was generated, first contact the bank or payment gateway, using the helplines in Appendix I of the Bulletin. Then contact NTA. See our correction window report.
Is JEE Main 2027 Session 1 From 20 January or 22 January?
Before NTA’s notice, several reports gave expected dates of 22 to 30 January. The official notice of 24 October 2026 sets Session 1 on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027. Your own date and shift will be on your admit card (13 January 2027), and you cannot appear on any other date. Wait for the city slip (30 December 2026) before booking travel. If your admit card has an error, the Bulletin says to call the helpline between 10 AM and 5 PM. See also admit card download issues.
My EWS Certificate Has Expired. Can I Apply Now and Renew It Before Admission?
Why it happens
The JEE Main form only asks you to declare a category. The Bulletin says Gen-EWS, SC, ST, OBC and PwD/PwBD candidates must produce the original certificate in the prescribed format, issued by the competent authority, at seat allocation or admission, or they will not be considered. The category you enter is also used for JEE Advanced.
Step-by-step fix
- Declare Gen-EWS only if you genuinely meet the Government of India criteria.
- Apply for a fresh certificate from your competent authority now.
- When JoSAA or CSAB publishes its 2027 rules, check which issue date and income year it accepts.
What not to do
Do not claim a category you cannot support at counselling. Category changes are not entertained after the correction window.
When to contact the helpdesk
Ask JoSAA or CSAB, not NTA, about which certificates are accepted at admission. NTA handles only the exam.
My Name on Aadhaar Does Not Match My Class 10 Certificate. Which One Do I Use?
Use the Class 10 version. The 28 October advisory says the name and date of birth must match the Class 10 certificate or mark sheet. If DigiLocker fetches a different spelling, update Aadhaar through UIDAI and redo Re-KYC. If the form will not accept the Class 10 version, contact the helpdesk before 22 November, while a fresh form is still possible.
NTA Is Not Answering My Calls or Emails. What Can I Do?
- Call 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, early in the day, and avoid the last week before the deadline.
- Email jeemain@nta.ac.in with a clear subject, such as “JEE Main 2027 – Application No. XXXX – DigiLocker login error”. Include screenshots and your registered mobile number.
- For payment problems, contact the bank or payment gateway listed in Appendix I of the Bulletin.
- Check jeemain.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in for new notices.
Do not send corrections by post, fax, WhatsApp, email or by hand. NTA will not act on them. Never share your password or OTP.
Do I Need 75% in Class 12 or a Top-20 Percentile for NIT Admission?
The JEE Main Bulletin does not set board-mark criteria. Admission is through JoSAA or CSAB, and the board-performance rule is part of JoSAA’s yearly business rules. The 2027 rules have not been published yet. For background, see the 75% criteria discussion in JoSAA 2026.
Your JEE Main score is a percentile, not a percentage. NTA normalises scores across shifts, calculating percentiles up to seven decimal places, and the total percentile is not an average of the subject percentiles. See JEE Main marks vs percentile and safe score trends for NIT and IIIT.
