NEET PG Registration 2026: One Week Left to Apply; Know Key Changes Introduced
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is rapidly closing the registration window for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2026. With exactly one week left to register, medical graduates looking to secure admissions into MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DNB programs must act quickly.
The online application window will officially shut down on July 21, 2026, at 11:55 PM. Eligible candidates who haven’t yet submitted their forms should visit the official NBEMS website at nbe.edu.in or natboard.edu.in to complete their registration before the server traffic spikes. Crucially, NBEMS has rolled out major policy, administrative, and structural changes for the 2026 session.

4 Major Changes Introduced This Year
NBEMS has introduced several fundamental changes this session aimed at enhancing exam security and streamlining logistics.
1. Mandatory Aadhaar-Based Authentication
In a bid to curb identity theft, impersonation, and fraudulent practices, NBEMS has made Aadhaar-based authentication mandatory during the online registration process. Candidates must ensure that their Aadhaar details exactly match the information on their medical graduation certificates.
2. End of ‘First-Come, First-Served’ City Allotment
Previously, candidates rushed to apply early to secure their nearest test city. NBEMS has explicitly scrapped the “First-Come, First-Served” system.
The New Rule: Applying early does not grant any preferential right to a specific center. Under the revised guidelines, candidates will select their preferred Test States during registration. The specific exam cities and centers within those states will be systematically allotted by the board later and informed via email/slip on August 11, 2026.
3. Revised Exam Pattern & Time-Bound Sections
The exam structure has undergone significant adjustments to improve testing parameters.
-
Reduced Question Count: The question paper will now consist of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), down from the traditional 200 questions.
-
Total Time: The exam duration is set for 3 hours and 36 minutes (216 minutes total), allowing roughly 72 seconds per question.
-
Time-Bound Sections: The exam will be divided into five distinct time-bound sections (Groups A, B, C, D, and E) with 36 questions each. Candidates will have exactly 42 minutes per section. You cannot skip ahead to the next section until your time is up, nor can you go back to review or modify your answers in a previous section once its timer ends.
4. Updated Tie-Breaking Criteria
In cases where two or more candidates secure the same score, NBEMS has updated its resolution hierarchy. Tie-breaking will now prioritize:
-
Higher number of correct responses in the exam paper.
-
Lesser number of negative/wrong responses across the entire paper.
-
The older candidate by age.
Category-Wise Application Fees
Candidates must pay the designated registration fee online during the application submission process:
-
General, OBC, and EWS Candidates: ₹3,500
-
SC, ST, and PwD Candidates: ₹2,500
Step-by-Step Registration Guide
Medical aspirants should use a desktop browser (like updated versions of Chrome or Firefox) rather than a mobile device to complete their application.
