The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Government of India, issued an advisory on October 13, 2026, warning NEET UG 2026 candidates against a fake notice circulating online. This fraudulent notice claimed a reduction in the eligibility percentile for NEET UG Counselling 2026, causing confusion among medical aspirants.

The advisory, referenced U-11011/07/2026-MEC, was released to prevent students from being misled by unauthorised information and potential fraudulent claims during the ongoing counselling process. The MCC emphasised that no decision regarding a percentile reduction has been taken by the competent authority.

Details of the Fake NOTICE and Official Clarification

The fake notice, widely shared on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram, carried a fabricated reference number (Ref. U-12021/05/2024-MEC) and a false issue date of October 12, 2026. It claimed a headline of ‘Urgent Attention Colleges’ and falsely stated that candidates from the General Category/EWS with 15 percentile and above, and SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories with 10 percentile and above, would be eligible for counselling.

The MCC explicitly stated that these claims are untrue and that the standard qualifying percentile rules for NEET UG remain unchanged. The official rules stipulate a 50th percentile for General/EWS candidates, 40th percentile for OBC/SC/ST, 45th percentile for General/EWS PwD, and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC PwD.

The counselling related information hosted on MCC website should be considered as authentic.”
