Scheduled for August 12, 2026, the spot admission drive aims to fill remaining vacant seats across six specialized Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Master of Science (M.Sc) programs at the institute’s permanent campus in Chumukedima, Dimapur.

The official admission notification (released on July 27, 2026) outlines the exact payment credentials, reporting timeline, document verification protocols, and key rules governing seat allotment.

Reporting Schedule and Departmental Test Timings

Candidates seeking spot admission must report in person at the NIT Nagaland campus. Late entries after the designated reporting time will not be entertained, as document verification and test coordination happen on-site before seat allocation.

Academic Criteria & Screening Rules

Admission will be strictly determined by academic eligibility and performance in the departmental written entrance test.

1. Qualification Standards

  • M.Tech: Applicants must hold a B.E. / B.Tech degree with at least 65% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA for General/OBC candidates, and 55% aggregate or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST candidates.

  • M.Sc: Applicants must possess a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Applied Chemistry with 6.5 CGPA / First Class (General/OBC) or 6.0 CGPA / 55% (SC/ST).

2. Preference Rules (GATE / JAM)

  • Non-GATE and Non-JAM candidates ARE eligible to take part in this spot round.

  • However, preference in final merit mapping will be awarded to applicants holding valid GATE 2026 scores (for M.Tech) or IIT JAM 2026 scores (for M.Sc).

3. National Counselling Exclusion Clause

  • Candidates who have already been allotted and accepted a seat through the CCMT-2026 or CCMN-2026 central spot rounds are ineligible.

  • Candidates holding a seat at another institution via CCMT/CCMN who wish to attempt NIT Nagaland’s spot round must formally cancel their existing admission prior to appearing on August 12.

4. Provisional Admission Window

Applicants awaiting their final degree results are allowed to participate provisionally. However, they must submit proof of passing with the required CGPA/percentage to the academic office no later than August 30, 2026.

Scholarship Policy & Financial Note

The institute has explicitly clarified that candidates admitted through this institutional spot round will not be eligible for institutional assistantships or stipends. Seat allocation will be conducted strictly on a self-financed fee structure as applicable to postgraduate programs at NIT Nagaland.
