The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) on October 8, 2026, released the revised syllabus and examination pattern for the Station Master post. This update introduces significant changes to the selection process, including the addition of English as a component for the first time.

The recruitment for Station Master will now be conducted separately, with a revised Computer Based Test (CBT) structure. The RRB NTPC 2026 recruitment cycle is currently in its active examination phase, following notifications issued in late 2025, aiming to fill 11,558 vacancies across Indian Railways.

Revised Station Master CBT Structure and New Additions

The revised Station Master examination will feature a single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT) carrying a total of 100 marks, for which candidates will be allotted 120 minutes. The CBT will assess candidates across Basic Science and Mathematics, Data Analysis & Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Mental Reasoning.

A notable change is the inclusion of Data Analysis & Interpretation, which is a new addition to the revised structure and carries 30 marks. Furthermore, English has been incorporated through Reading Comprehension, which forms part of the Logical Capability section. The Mental Reasoning section will focus on pattern recognition and reasoning-based problem solving, covering topics such as Analogy, Series, Coding-Decoding, Ranking & Arrangements.

Detailed Syllabus for Key Sections

The Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability section, carrying 60 marks, is divided into two sub-sections: Basic Science & Mathematics (30 marks) and Data Analysis & Interpretation (30 marks). The Mathematics syllabus includes topics such as Number System, Ratio and Proportions, Averages, Percentages, Profit, Loss and Discounts, Time Speed Distance, Power and Work, Algebra, Linear Equations, Arithmetic Progression, LCM HCF, Geometry, Trigonometry, Area and Volumes, Probability, and Statistics.

The Basic Science syllabus covers Units, Measurements, Mass, Weight, Density, Work, Power, Energy, Kinetic Energy, Friction, Speed, Velocity, Relative Velocity, Heat, Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers, and Simple Machines. The Logical Capability section, which accounts for 20 marks, comprises Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension, with passages in English from many subjects.

Selection Process and Merit List Calculation

The complete selection process for Station Master recruitment includes a Computer Based Test (CBT), Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), Document Verification, and a Medical examination. Unlike some other posts, Station Master and Traffic Assistant positions do not require typing skills; instead, candidates must clear the CBAT.

In the CBAT, candidates must achieve a minimum ‘T-Score’ in every single test battery to qualify, and there is usually no negative marking. The final merit list for the Station Master post will be determined by considering 30% of the CBAT results and 70% of the Stage 2 results. The RRB conducts NTPC recruitment for various posts, including Station Master, Goods Train Manager, Commercial Apprentice, and Junior Clerk.
