Eligibility Criteria and Admission Categories
VNIT Nagpur offers PhD admissions under two main categories: Full-Time (Category 1) and Part-Time (Category 2). Full-Time Category 1A (Institute) assistantship is available only for GATE/NET qualified candidates. GATE is not mandatory for Category 1D, but a no-objection certificate (NOC) as per Annexure I is required if sponsored by an organisation.
Part-Time (Category 2) students are not eligible for financial assistance from VNIT Nagpur. A no-objection certificate (NOC) from the current employer (as per Annexure II) is required for admission in Part-Time Category 2A. A new Part-time Ph.D. Category 2B has been introduced for candidates with five or more years of Industry Experience/Academic Experience in Academic Reputed Institutes. Students with a qualifying GATE/NET score may convert their part-time Ph.D. to a full-time program within the first two years, subject to VNIT norms.
