GATE 2027 Registration Begins Today (August 27): How to Register, Application Fee & More

IIT Madras officially opened the registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 today, August 27, 2026. Registrations are open till September 27, 2026 without late fee and October 5,2026 with late fee. Aspiring candidates can now register through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal, accessible at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

The GATE 2027 examination assesses candidates’ understanding of undergraduate-level subjects across many fields, with qualified individuals potentially receiving financial assistance from Ministry of Education-supported institutions for higher studies. A significant update for this cycle is the introduction of a new Robotics & Automation (RA) paper, expanding the scope for specialized candidates.

GATE 2027: Important Dates and Application Fees

The application window for GATE 2027 is now open, with key deadlines approaching for candidates to complete their registration. The last date to submit applications without incurring a late fee is September 27, 2026. Following this, candidates will have an extended period until October 5, 2026, to apply, albeit with an additional late fee.

The application fee structure varies by candidate category and application period. Women, SC, ST, and PwD candidates are required to pay Rs 1,000 per paper during the regular application period, which increases to Rs 1,500 per paper during the extended period. For all other candidates, the fee is Rs 2,000 per paper for regular applications and Rs 2,500 per paper for applications submitted during the extended period. all application fees are non-refundable.

GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates in their 3rd year or higher of a 4-year undergraduate degree, or those who have already completed a qualifying degree, are eligible to apply for GATE 2027. There is no upper age limit for appearing in the examination, making it accessible to tons of aspirants. The GATE 2027 Information Brochure, detailing full guidelines, was released on July 20, 2026.

How to Apply for GATE 2027

The application process for GATE 2027 requires candidates to register through the GOAPS portal. A crucial new requirement for all Indian nationals is mandatory DigiLocker registration. In addition, the registration process incorporates live facial verification, enhancing the security and authenticity of applications.

1. Go to the official GATE 2027 website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
2. Click on the ‘Apply Online’ or ‘Registration’ link for GATE 2027.
3. Register using a valid mobile number and email address to create a GOAPS account.
4. Complete the mandatory DigiLocker registration for Indian nationals.
5. Proceed with the application form, ensuring all personal and academic details are accurately filled.
6. Undergo live facial verification as part of the registration process.
7. Upload all required documents, including photograph and signature, as per the specified guidelines.
8. Pay the application fee online based on your category and the application period.
9. Review the application form thoroughly before final submission.
10. Download and print the submitted application form for future reference.

GATE 2027 Exam Pattern

The GATE 2027 exam will be a 3-hour Computer-Based Test (CBT) in English, comprising 65 questions for 100 marks across 30 test papers.
