The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) will close the extended registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 on October 12, 2026. Aspiring candidates can complete their applications on the official IIT GATE website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

GATE 2027 is conducted jointly by IISc and IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The examination evaluates understanding of undergraduate-level subjects across various disciplines and is crucial for admission to M.Tech, M.E., Ph.D., and other postgraduate programs in IITs, NITs, IISc, and other institutes, as well as for PSU recruitments.
Eligibility and Application Process
Candidates currently in their 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program, or those who have completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, are eligible to appear for GATE 2027. There is no upper age limit for the examination. For candidates from countries other than India, eligibility requires being in the 3rd or higher years or having completed a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years duration in the specified fields.
Indian nationals are required to complete mandatory DigiLocker-based registration and facial verification as part of the application process. DigiLocker is a Government of India digital document wallet used for Aadhaar verification and accessing academic documents. Applicants must upload a recent passport-size photograph in JPEG/JPG format, with dimensions between 200×260 px and 530×690 px, and a maximum file size of 600 KB. The signature must also be in JPEG/JPG format, between 250×80 px and 580×180 px, with a maximum file size of 300 KB.

- Click on submit and login to the page.
- Fill the application form and make the payment of application fee.

Application Fees and Important Dates
The application fees for GATE 2027 vary based on candidate category and the registration period. For Female, SC, ST, and PwD category candidates, the fee for the extended period is ₹1500. For all other candidates, the extended period application fee is ₹2500. All payments must be made online. The regular registration period closed on September 27, 2026, with GOAPS Registration having opened on September 2, 2026.
Following the closure of the extended registration window, an application correction window for GATE 2027 will be available from October 14, 2026, to October 21, 2026. The city allotment notification and admit card download will be available on January 4, 2027.

Examination Structure and New Additions
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras), is scheduled for February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. The examination will feature 30 test papers and will be held in both forenoon and afternoon sessions on each of these dates. Candidates have the option to appear in either one or up to two test papers, as per the examination guidelines.
For GATE 2027, a new test paper titled “Robotics and Automation (RA)” has been introduced. In addition, the syllabi for several existing papers have undergone revisions. The GATE scores will remain valid for a period of three years from the date the results are announced.
