Application Process and Fees
The registration process for GATE 2027 commenced on September 2, 2026. Indian nationals are required to complete a DigiLocker-based registration. While candidates can register through unverified DigiLocker accounts, original documents will be subject to verification at the examination halls. The application fee for GATE 2027 is non-refundable.
Candidates must upload a recent passport-size photograph and a scanned signature according to specific dimensions and file sizes. The photograph must be in JPEG/JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 200×260 px and a maximum of 530×690 px, and a file size of up to 600 KB. The signature must also be in JPEG/JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 250×80 px and a maximum of 580×180 px, and a file size of up to 300 KB. SC/ST and PwD certificates must be uploaded during registration, while OBC-NCL and EWS certificates are generally required at the counselling stage.

Eligibility and Examination Details
Any undergraduate student currently in their 3rd year or higher of a government-approved program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities is eligible for GATE 2027. There is no age limit to appear for the examination. Candidates can select up to two test papers from approved combinations and must choose six preferred examination cities. A new test paper, Robotics and Automation (RA), has been introduced for GATE 2027, bringing the total number of test papers to 30. GATE scores will have a validity of three years.
