GATE 2027: Register by September 27 to avoid late fees

IIT Madras, the conducting institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, has announced that the regular registration window for the examination will close on September 27, 2026. Aspirants seeking admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs or aiming for Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) recruitment through GATE 2027 must complete their applications on the official GOAPS portal, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, by this date to avoid additional charges.

The GATE examination is a national-level assessment conducted jointly by IISc and IITs under the aegis of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Qualified candidates can use their GATE scores, which are valid for three years, for admissions and recruitment.

GATE 2027 Application Process and Deadlines

The registration process for GATE 2027 commenced on September 2, 2026, following the release of the Information Brochure on July 20, 2026. While the regular deadline is September 27, 2026, candidates will have an extended opportunity to submit their application forms with a late fee until October 5, 2026. Following the application period, a correction window will be available from October 14, 2026, to October 21, 2026, for applicants to rectify any errors in their submissions.

The application process requires candidates to create a profile, generate an Enrollment ID, and then proceed to fill the detailed form. Indian Nationals are mandated to link their DigiLocker accounts during registration. The application fee is charged per test paper, with different rates for various candidate categories, as detailed below.

Eligibility Criteria and Required Documents

Candidates in their third year or higher of a four-year undergraduate degree, or those who have already completed a qualifying degree, are eligible to apply for GATE 2027. There is no upper age limit for the examination. Applicants must upload a recent passport-size photograph and a scanned signature according to specific guidelines. The photograph must be in JPEG/JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 200×260 px and a maximum of 530×690 px, and a maximum file size of 600 KB. The signature must also be in JPEG/JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 250×80 px and a maximum of 580×180 px, and a maximum file size of 300 KB.

SC/ST and PwD certificates must be uploaded during the registration phase. However, OBC-NCL and EWS certificates are typically required at the counselling stage. The application fee, once paid, is non-refundable. Candidates are permitted to select up to two test papers from approved combinations, with the fee charged per paper.

Key Dates for GATE 2027

The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted over six days in February 2027, specifically on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21. A significant update for this cycle is the introduction of a new test paper, Robotics and Automation (RA), expanding the total number of available test papers. The results for GATE 2027 are scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.

Candidates are advised to regularly check the official GOAPS portal for any further updates regarding the application process or examination schedule. The admit cards for the examination will be available for download from January 4, 2027, which is also the date for city allotment notification.
