GATE 2027 Registration Begins Tomorrow (14 August): Key Dates, Registration Process, Documents & More

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), will open the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 registration process tomorrow, August 14, 2026. Aspiring candidates can apply through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. IIT Madras is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2027.

This national-level examination is crucial for securing admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes, obtaining financial assistance in Ministry of Education (MoE)-supported institutions, and for recruitment by various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The regular registration window will remain open until September 21, 2026, with an extended option available until September 30, 2026.

GATE 2027 Important Dates

The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted across three weekends in February 2027. The results are scheduled for release in March 2027, and the GATE score will remain valid for three years from the date of result declaration. There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.

GATE 2027 Registration: Mandatory Digilocker and Live Facial Verification

Before proceeding with GATE 2027 registration, all Indian nationals must create or update a verified DigiLocker account, as this is a mandatory step. The registration process will also incorporate live facial verification for extra security. These measures aim to make easier the application process and enhance its integrity.

Candidates have the flexibility to apply for one or two papers from the 30 papers listed for GATE 2027. A new Robotics & Automation (RA) paper has been introduced for GATE 2027, expanding the options available to engineering and science graduates. The GATE 2027 Information Brochure, detailing all aspects of the examination, was released on July 20, 2026.

How to Apply for GATE 2027

The application process for GATE 2027 is entirely online, conducted through the GOAPS portal. Candidates should follow a step-by-step procedure to ensure all information is accurately submitted. The application rectification window will be available from October 14, 2026, to October 21, 2026, for any necessary corrections.

2. Create or update your verified DigiLocker account as mandatory.

4. Register by providing necessary personal and academic details.

6. Complete the live facial verification process.
7. Select one or two papers from the 30 available options for GATE 2027.
8. Pay the application fee as per the specified categories.
9. Review the application form thoroughly before final submission.
10. Download and print the submitted application form for future reference.

GATE 2027 Examination Pattern and Score Validity

GATE 2027 will be conducted as a 3-hour computer-based test (CBT), with each paper carrying 100 marks, while the GATE 2027 Score Card will remain valid for three years.
