The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), the organising body for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, today, October 10, 2026, announced the full examination schedule. This includes the specific exam dates, application deadlines, and the date for result declaration, as detailed on the official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

The GATE examination is a national-level test for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes, securing financial assistance, and recruitment by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The 2027 edition introduces a new test paper and allows candidates to attempt up to two papers, necessitating a revised schedule compared to previous years.

GATE 2027 Examination Schedule and Timings

The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted over three weekends in February 2027. The specific dates are February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. Each exam day will feature two sessions: a Forenoon session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and an Afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Each paper will have a duration of 3 hours.

The examination will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) and will cover 30 test papers. For 2027, Robotics and Automation (RA) has been introduced as a new GATE test paper. Candidates have the option to appear for either one paper or up to two test papers, provided they belong to permitted two-paper combinations. The GATE score will remain valid for three years from the date of result announcement.

Application Deadlines and Rectification Window

The GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) opened for registration on September 2, 2026. The regular online registration period, without a late fee, concluded on October 5, 2026. Candidates who missed the initial deadline still have the opportunity to register with a late fee until October 12, 2026.

Following the registration period, an application rectification window will be available for candidates to make necessary corrections. This window opens on October 14, 2026, and will close on October 21, 2026. Candidates are advised to utilise this period to ensure their application details are accurate. The city allotment notification for GATE 2027 is scheduled for January 4, 2027, while the admit card download date is yet to be announced.

Exam Pattern and Scoring

The GATE 2027 examination will consist of 65 questions for a maximum of 100 marks. Out of these, 10 questions will be from General Aptitude, and 55 questions will be subject-related. The question types include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

Negative marking will only be applicable to incorrectly answered MCQs. A deduction of 1/3 mark will occur for 1-mark MCQs, and 2/3 mark will be deducted for 2-mark MCQs. There will be no negative marking for MSQ and NAT questions. The provisional answer key for GATE 2027 is expected to be released in February 2027, followed by the final answer key in March 2027. The results will be announced on March 19, 2027.
