The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Tamil Nadu, announced today, October 16, 2026, an extension of the registration deadline for Tamil Nadu NEET PG 2026 counselling. This decision aims to provide additional time for candidates to apply for postgraduate medical courses in the state.

The application window, which commenced on October 9, 2026, was initially scheduled to close on October 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM. The extension now allows eligible candidates to complete their applications until October 16, 2026, for the academic session 2026-27.

Eligibility and Application Process

The counselling process is for MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses offered in government medical colleges and government-quota seats in self-financing medical colleges affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. Applicants must have qualified NEET PG 2026 and hold an MBBS degree from a recognized medical college, registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a State Medical Council.

A crucial eligibility criterion states that candidates must have completed their compulsory rotating medical internship (CRRI/CRMI) on or before September 30, 2026. In addition, individuals currently pursuing or who have already completed a PG Degree, Diploma, or DNB course are not eligible to apply. However, diploma holders are permitted to apply for PG Degree courses but not for another diploma course.

The application process is conducted entirely online through the official website, tnmedicalselection.net. The application fee for government quota seats is ₹3,000, payable online via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. SC/ST (including Arunthathiyar) and Scheduled Tribe candidates who are native to Tamil Nadu are exempt from this application fee.

Mandatory Document Submission and Rejection Criteria

All relevant documents must be submitted online along with the application, as mandated by a High Court order (W.P. No. 27151 of 2022). This emphasizes what’s key about thorough and accurate submission. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research has stated that incomplete applications or those with unclear documents will be summarily rejected without any provision for reconsideration.

Candidates are advised to review the list of required documents carefully to ensure their application is complete. This includes the NEET PG 2026 Score Card and Admit Card, MBBS Degree Certificate, CRRI/CRMI Completion Certificate, and Permanent or Provisional Medical Registration Certificate, among others. Community and Nativity Certificates are also required for those claiming reservations or Tamil Nadu nativity.
