UPESSC PGT, TGT recruitment: apply for 17,735 TGT posts by 23 November

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), based in Prayagraj, has commenced recruitment processes for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) and Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) across Uttar Pradesh for the 2026 cycle. These drives aim to fill a total of 20,342 teaching positions in various subjects.

The recruitment includes 2,607 PGT vacancies and 17,735 TGT vacancies, with separate application windows and examination schedules. Candidates are required to complete a One Time Registration (OTR) process on the official UPESSC portal before submitting their applications.

UP PGT Recruitment Details and Schedule

The official UP PGT Recruitment 2026 Notification PDF, Advt No. 06/2026, was released on 15 September 2026, announcing 2,607 vacancies across 26 subjects. The online application process for these positions began on 19 September 2026, with the registration window closing on 17 October 2026. Candidates had until 21 October 2026, to modify their applications.

The written examination for PGT posts is scheduled for 15 and 16 December 2026. The selection process for PGT includes a Written Test, Interview, and Document Verification. Applicants must be between 21 and 62 years of age as of 1 July 2026, and possess a relevant postgraduate qualification in the concerned subject along with a B.Ed. qualification from a recognised university or institution.

PGT Vacancy Distribution Across Subjects

The 2,607 PGT vacancies are distributed across 26 subjects, with positions available in both boys’ and girls’ schools. Hindi has the highest number of vacancies at 374, followed by English with 285 and Sanskrit with 264. Geography also has a bunch of openings, totaling 248.

The distribution shows a higher number of vacancies in boys’ schools, with 2,329 positions, compared to 278 in girls’ schools. Subjects like Military Science, Agriculture, and Botany/Agricultural Science have fewer vacancies, ranging from 4 to 32 posts.

UPESSC TGT Recruitment: Application and Exam Schedule

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has also released recruitment notification Advt No: 07/2026 for 17,735 vacancies for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT). The online application process for TGT posts commenced on 24 October 2026, and will conclude on 23 November 2026. The last date for fee payment is also 23 November 2026, with a correction window available until 26 November 2026.

The TGT written examination is scheduled for 23 and 24 December 2026. The selection methodology for TGT includes a Written Examination (objective type multiple-choice test), Merit List Preparation, and Document Verification. Candidates for TGT must hold a Graduate degree in the relevant subject along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or an equivalent recognized teacher training degree. The minimum age for TGT is 21 years, with age relaxations applicable for reserved categories. The TGT exam pattern consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, totaling 360 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. The pay scale for Assistant Teacher (Graduate Pay Scale / TGT) is Level 7, ranging from Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400.

TGT Vacancy Distribution and Eligibility

Out of the 17,735 TGT vacancies, 16,193 are for boy’s schools and 1,542 for girl’s schools. Hindi accounts for the highest number of vacancies with 2,791 posts, followed by Science with 2,493 and Social Science with 2,482. English and Mathematics also have substantial vacancies, with 2,517 and 2,349 posts respectively.

Other subjects with available TGT positions include Sanskrit (1,289), Home Science (798), Physical Education (849), and Drawing / Art (775). Candidates applying for TGT posts must ensure they meet the educational qualifications, including a graduate degree in the relevant subject and a B.Ed. qualification, and adhere to the age criteria of a minimum of 21 years.
