In short
- The VITEEE 2027 exam duration has been reduced to 2 hours (120 minutes) from the previous 2 hours 30 minutes.
- Sectional timers have been introduced for each of the five sections, automatically submitting responses when time expires.
- The total number of questions for VITEEE 2027 is now 100, carrying a total of 400 marks, with a negative marking of -1 for incorrect answers.
- Registration for VITEEE 2027 is expected to commence in October 2026, with the computer-based test tentatively scheduled from April 27 to May 2, 2027.
- Candidates must be born on or after July 1, 2005, and secure a minimum of 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in their qualifying exam.
The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has announced a revised examination pattern for the VITEEE 2027, the mandatory entrance exam for admission to its B.Tech. Programme. Key changes include a reduced exam duration and the introduction of sectional timers, which aim to evaluate candidates’ time management and speed.

The computer-based test (CBT) will now span 2 hours, a reduction from the previous 2 hours 30 minutes. These modifications, alongside the introduction of negative marking for the first time, are intended to encourage thoughtful attempts rather than indiscriminate answering, shifting candidate strategy from attempting all questions to selective responses.
Revised Exam Structure and Marking Scheme
For VITEEE 2027, the total number of questions has been revised to 100, carrying a maximum of 400 marks. The marking scheme now includes negative marking, with +4 marks awarded for each correct answer and -1 mark deducted for every incorrect response. The question type remains Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), and the language of the question paper will be English.
A significant change is the introduction of sectional timers. Once the timer for a specific section concludes, responses for that section are automatically saved and submitted, and candidates will no longer be able to access those questions. This mandates strict adherence to time limits for each section.

Physics and Chemistry sections each comprise 25 questions for 100 marks, with a 30-minute sectional limit. The English and Aptitude sections each have 5 questions for 20 marks, with a 10-minute time limit.
The syllabus for VITEEE 2027 continues to align with the NCERT curriculum for classes 11 and 12, with a greater emphasis on class 12 topics. VIT does not accept scores from JEE Main or any other entrance examination for its B.Tech admissions.
