This decision came hours after the department announced the portal would become operational from Thursday, 3 September 2026, at https://dap.wbcap.in.

The postponement stems from a significant number of undergraduate seats remaining unfilled across state-aided colleges after three rounds of admissions conducted through the Centralised Admission Portal (CAP). More than five lakh undergraduate seats are still vacant, prompting authorities to re-evaluate the admission strategy for the current academic year.

Although the decentralised portal is postponed, candidates who participated in earlier rounds of WBCAP 2026 can refer to the following steps to check their merit list status:

2. Log in using your Student Login credentials.
3. Navigate to the ‘Merit List’ tab.
4. Select your university and college.
5. Your allotment status will appear on the screen.

The WBCAP Phase 1 Merit List 2026 was released on 9 June 2026, at 10:00 AM, with a deadline for confirming admission by 15 June 2026. An upgrade round merit list for Phase 1 was published on 20 June 2026. The Mop-Up Round (Phase 2) commenced on 7 July 2026, with applications open until 16 July 2026, and its merit list and allocation list published on 19 July 2026.
