B.Sc Nursing Syllabus 2026: INC Year-Wise Subjects, Clinical Hours & Official PDFs

B.Sc Nursing in India is a 4-year, 8-semester undergraduate degree governed by a single national curriculum issued by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). Because every recognised college follows the INC’s Revised Regulations and Curriculum for the B.Sc (Nursing) Programme, 2021, the core subjects, clinical practicum and internship are broadly the same whether you study at AIIMS Delhi, CMC Vellore, PGIMER Chandigarh or a state-university-affiliated college. What varies is how each institution delivers the clinical training, elective load and assessment. This page gives you the authoritative INC year-wise subject list, how top colleges implement it, the clinical/internship structure, the exam scheme, and verified links to download the official syllabus PDFs.

How Top Colleges Implement the INC Scheme

The syllabus is common; the delivery, patient exposure and add-on training differ. Here is how leading institutions across tiers map to the INC curriculum:

College (Tier) Affiliation / recognition How it implements the INC scheme
College of Nursing, AIIMS Delhi (Tier-1) Institute of National Importance; INC-recognised; B.Sc (Hons) Nursing Delivers the INC core plus an honours-level research emphasis; clinical postings in a high-volume tertiary referral hospital give unusually deep specialty exposure. Admission via AIIMS’s own entrance (not NEET).
College of Nursing, CMC Vellore (Tier-1) Affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University; INC-accredited Follows INC + university curriculum with a strong community-health and mission-hospital model; two-step institutional entrance; ~100 seats. Known for rigorous supervised clinicals and integrated ward-based teaching.
NINE, PGIMER Chandigarh (Tier-1) National Institute of Nursing Education, affiliated to PGIMER (Institute of National Importance) INC core delivered with clinical training at PGIMER’s referral hospital; PGIMER’s own entrance (no NEET); ~93 seats. Heavy critical-care and super-specialty exposure.
Manipal College of Nursing (MAHE) (Tier-2, strong private/deemed) Deemed-to-be-University; INC-approved INC core plus institution-added modules in critical care, emergency, neonatal and infertility nursing; runs an INC-approved MAHE-UNB dual-degree track. Illustrates how private/deemed universities layer electives over the national core.
RGUHS-affiliated colleges, Karnataka (Tier-3, state affiliating university) Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences affiliates hundreds of nursing colleges A single state university publishes an INC-aligned syllabus, exam scheme and question papers that all its affiliated colleges follow, standardizing delivery across many institutions. NEET UG-based admission.

INC-Prescribed Core vs College/University Variations (Summary)

  • Fixed by INC (same everywhere): the list of core and foundation subjects, minimum clinical practicum requirement per specialty, the internship semester, pass criteria (50% separately in theory and practical), and minimum attendance.
  • Set by the university/institute: exact credit weighting, internal-assessment weightage, elective choices, question-paper style, and the academic calendar.
  • Differentiator at top colleges: volume and diversity of clinical cases (tertiary vs district hospitals), research/honours emphasis (AIIMS), community/mission model (CMC), super-specialty exposure (PGIMER), and value-added certifications (Manipal).

Clinical Practicum, Internship & Exam Scheme

Clinical & practical training

B.Sc Nursing is a clinically loaded degree: every core nursing course (Nursing Foundation, Adult Health, Child Health, Mental Health, Midwifery, Community Health) carries a large supervised practicum in hospital wards, OT, labour room, paediatric and psychiatric units, and community field areas, in addition to theory. Clinical hours substantially exceed classroom hours across the programme.

Internship (Semester VIII)

The final semester is a full-time supervised integrated internship in which students rotate through Adult Health (Medical-Surgical), Community Health, Child Health, Mental Health and Midwifery/OBG postings, consolidating competencies before registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN & RM).

Examination & promotion

  • Each subject has internal (continuous) assessment + external (university) examination in theory and practical.
  • Pass mark: a minimum of 50% separately in theory and in practical for each subject; English typically requires a lower pass mark.
  • Attendance: a minimum attendance (commonly 80% in theory and 100% in practical/clinical) is required to sit exams.
  • Practical exams commonly use OSCE/OSPE (Objective Structured Clinical/Practical Examination).
  • Under the 2021 semester system, defined back-paper rules apply, but all previous exams must be cleared before the final (internship) stage.

Key Takeaways

  • One national curriculum (INC 2021) governs B.Sc Nursing across India – core subjects and internship are standardized.
  • Year 1 builds sciences + Nursing Foundation; Years 2-3 deliver specialty nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health, Community, OBG); Year 4 ends with midwifery, community postings and a full internship semester.
  • Top colleges differ mainly in clinical volume, research emphasis and value-added modules, not in the core subject list.
  • Always cross-check your own university’s PDF for exact credits, codes and exam weightage.
