A B.Tech CSE student can apply for central government scholarships (Central Sector Scheme, INSPIRE-SHE, PMSSS), AICTE technical-education scholarships (Pragati for girls, Saksham for differently-abled), state-government schemes, and private/institute merit scholarships. Government scholarships for B.Tech CSE
The two most widely applicable central schemes for a B.Tech CSE student are the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships and reserved-category post-matric scholarships. The Central Sector Scheme awards Rs 12,000 per year for the first three years and Rs 20,000 in the fourth year, for students above the 80th percentile in Class 12 whose family income is under Rs 4.5 lakh, with 50% of the roughly 82,000 slots reserved for female students.

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships (CSSS)
This is the flagship merit-cum-means scholarship for regular degree students. Registration usually opens around July each year on the National Scholarship Portal, and renewal each year depends on maintaining at least 50-60% marks and 75% attendance.
INSPIRE Scholarship (SHE)
The Department of Science and Technology’s INSPIRE-SHE is one of the highest-value UG scholarships at up to Rs 80,000 a year, but it is aimed at students pursuing the natural and basic sciences. A pure B.Tech CSE degree typically does not qualify; it is most relevant if you take an integrated science or B.Sc. route. Because a B.Tech CSE programme runs in AICTE-approved engineering institutions, students can access the AICTE Pragati and Saksham schemes. Both award Rs 50,000 per year, transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer, for students whose family income is under Rs 8 lakh, and both close on 31 October 2026 on the NSP.
AICTE Pragati Scholarship (girl students)
Pragati supports girl students in technical degree or diploma courses, with the aim of encouraging women in engineering. One girl per family (up to two in some years) can receive the Rs 50,000 award towards tuition and study essentials.
AICTE Saksham Scholarship (differently-abled students)
Saksham gives the same Rs 50,000 to specially-abled students with at least 40% certified disability who are admitted to the first year (or second year via lateral entry) of an AICTE-approved technical course. The amount can be used for tuition, books, a laptop, software and other study needs.
State-government and private scholarships
Beyond central schemes, most states run their own post-matric and merit scholarships (for example Maharashtra’s EBC/Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj schemes, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka fee-reimbursement schemes), and many private organisations fund engineering students directly. Notable private options include the Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships, Tata Trusts and Tata Capital Pankh, IDFC FIRST Bank, Siemens, and institute-specific merit waivers offered by private universities.
Private universities and deemed institutes also link merit scholarships to entrance-exam scores. For most government and AICTE scholarships you apply free of cost on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in). The typical steps are:
- Register on NSP with your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and bank details.
- Keep documents ready: Class 12 marksheet, admission proof, income certificate, category/disability certificate (if applicable), and a bank passbook.
- Fill and submit the scheme form before the deadline (AICTE Pragati/Saksham close 31 October 2026).
