The HSLC Examination represents the first major academic examination for students in Assam. The sample question paper for Class X (2026-2027) comprises 38 compulsory questions distributed across four sections: History (20 Marks), Geography (20 Marks), Political Science (20 Marks), and Economics (20 Marks). The written examination for Social Science requires a pass mark of 27, with an additional 10 marks allocated for internal assessment.

The structure of questions includes Very Short Answer Type Questions (VSA) carrying 2 marks each, with answers not exceeding 40 words. Short Answer Type Questions (SA) carry 3 marks each, requiring answers not exceeding 60 words. Long Answer Type Questions (LA) are worth 5 marks each, with answers not exceeding 120 words. Case Based Questions (CBQ) consist of three sub-questions, each carrying 4 marks, with answers not exceeding 100 words. Map-based questions carry a total of 5 marks, with 2 marks for History and 3 marks for Geography.
