Assam NEET 2026 stray round counselling registration begins: apply by October 17

The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, has initiated the stray round counselling registration for Assam NEET 2026, supporting admissions to MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges across the state. Eligible candidates can register online through the official portal, dme.assam.gov.in, with the registration window closing today, October 17, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

This counselling round is specifically for the 85% State Quota seats and targets candidates who have qualified in NEET-UG-2026 and meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. The process aims to fill remaining vacancies after the completion of previous counselling rounds.

Stray Round Counselling Schedule and Process

Following the registration deadline, candidates who successfully register will be able to fill and lock their choices for courses and institutions. Choice filling is scheduled for October 18 to 19, 2026, until 10 PM. The choice locking facility will be active on October 19, 2026, from 5 PM to 11:59 PM. The DME, Assam, will announce the seat allotment result for this stray round on October 21, 2026. Provisionally selected candidates must report to their allotted colleges for joining between October 25 and 26, 2026.

Eligibility and Application Fee Details

To be eligible for the stray round counselling, candidates must have qualified in NEET-UG-2026 and satisfy the eligibility criteria outlined in “The Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges of Assam (Regulation of Admission into 1st year MBBS/BDS courses) Rules 2017 (Amended upto 2026)”. A cut-off score in NEET-UG-2026 is also mandatory. Candidates who have already joined or are holding seats after Round 3 of counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for the 2026 session are not eligible for this state-level stray round.

The non-refundable registration fee for the NEET UG Counselling 2026 in Assam is ₹1,000 for all categories, including General/UR, EWS, OBC/MOBC, SC, ST, and PwD. This fee structure applies uniformly across all specified categories.

Background and Previous Counselling Rounds

The NEET UG 2026 result was declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on July 16, 2026. Later, the Government of Assam notified “The Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges of Assam (Regulations of Admission into 1st year MBBS or BDS Courses) (Amendment) Rules, 2026” on August 5, 2026. This amendment introduced revisions to the seat-wise reservation matrix and a Three-Generation Link Certificate requirement.

Prior to the stray round, the DME, Assam, conducted three rounds of online counselling. Round 1 registration was open from August 13 to August 15, 2026. Round 2 registration took place from September 6 to September 7, 2026. The most recent Round 3 saw registrations from September 28 to October 1, 2026, with choice filling from October 2 to October 5, 2026, and choice locking on October 5, 2026. The Round 3 seat allotment result was announced on October 9, 2026, with reporting and joining for selected candidates from October 13 to October 14, 2026.
