Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU), located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has extended the admission deadline for its July 2026 academic session. Prospective students for Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) programmes, offered in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, now have until October 13, 2026, to complete their applications. The initial deadline for this session was July 31, 2026.

This extension encompasses many courses, including BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, MBA, MA, MCom, MSc, and BEd. The university, established in 1994 by the government of Gujarat, aims to provide higher education opportunities and promote distance education across the state.

Application Process and Fees

Online registration for BAOU admission 2026 for the July academic session is currently underway. Candidates are required to register online through the GCAS portal. Following the completion of the GCAS form (Step-3), applicants must proceed to fill the BAOU Step-4 form. The university specifies that online verification of forms and documents will be conducted after Step-04, leading to admission confirmation.

Applicants are also mandated to generate their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID and DEB ID. All fee payments must be made online via net banking, credit/debit card, or bank challan. Students are advised to carefully select their program and study centre, as changes will not be permitted once the admission form is submitted.

Eligibility and Course Structure

For admission to UG courses, candidates must possess a 10+2 qualification. Those aspiring for PG courses are required to hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Selection for all programmes will be based purely on merit performance in the qualifying examination, as BAOU does not conduct an entrance exam for any of its programmes. In addition, there is no upper age limit for admission to either UG or master’s degree courses.

BAOU offers a diverse portfolio of over 80 programmes. The minimum duration for UG courses is three years, comprising six semesters, with a maximum duration of six years. PG programs have a minimum duration of two years (four semesters) and a maximum period of four years (eight semesters). The university has an enrolment of more than 8,00,000 learners across its 09 Regional Centres and over 300 study centres throughout Gujarat.

University Recognition and Infrastructure

BAOU is recognised by the University Grants Commission-Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB) and holds 12(B) status from the UGC. The university has also been accredited by NAAC with an A++ grade, marking its commitment to quality education. Its headquarters are located in Ahmedabad, serving as the central hub for its extensive network of regional and study centres.

The university was established by Act No.14 of 1994, passed by the Gujarat State Legislature on April 13, 1994, and assented to by the Governor of Gujarat on July 27, 1994. It is the seventh Open University established in India, with objectives including advancing learning and knowledge and promoting community educational well-being through distance education.
