Background of NEET UG 2026 Examination

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the NEET (UG) examination, which serves as the common and uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to undergraduate medical education in all medical institutions in India. The NEET (UG) 2026 examination was initially held on May 3, 2026. However, a re-examination was conducted on June 21, 2026, following a paper leak incident. The results for NEET (UG) 2026 were after that released on June 21, 2026, as confirmed by the NTA.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigated the NEET UG 2026 paper leak, which involved 45 Chemistry questions matching a master test booklet. The NTA prepares four master sets of question papers for NEET, with two administrative sets for NEET UG-2026 codenamed ‘Kailash’ and ‘Shivalik’. Evidence included 15 questions matching master set ‘Kailash’ in an April 19 mock test, six questions matching ‘Shivalik’ and five matching master set 2 in an April 30 mock test, and 13 Chemistry questions recovered from a phone matching across the four master sets. As per the NMC Act 2019, NEET (UG) is the sole entrance test for admissions to medical colleges in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER.
